Pearlescent Poems # 28: Mr. Forgetful (Original Poem)

He sleeps and wakes late, breakfast's way past Noon
And when he cooks, he doesn't look, his head's a hot air balloon

He serves the plates to his family and he sits down to eat
Then the smoke fills up the kitchen from the still burning heat

His wife turns off the stove and also turns on the vent
He heads out shopping with his daughter, pockets only with cents

He returns back to the house to grab the money off the dresser
But forgets the shopping list, house keys, and a new dress shirt

Just one last return, and now he's ready to go
On second thought maybe not, he needs a jacket, it's cold

Might as well grab the biggest umbrella just in case
Now the time is ticking fast, he has to pick up the pace

He finally makes it to the store and buys the family a lot
But even with the shopping list, there's always things he forgot

So many times he has to double back and then triple check
Him multitasking in the kitchen? A given real triple threat

He didn't ask for the problem of remembering names
Or barely recalling somethings out of memory lane

You can have a conversation, he'll forget what you say
You could plan to meet tomorrow, he'll forget the next day

The only thing he can remember are the songs that he plays
And showing Love's definition in his million of ways

He means well and is given many chances to be
A better person in this life, "Mr. Forgetful is ME!"
