Strategy game StarCraft was first released in 1998 by Blizzard Entertainment and has since become a cult favourite. Blizzard has announced StarCraft has been patched for "the first time in over eight years" and is now free to download for anyone on both Windows and Mac (available here.)Those who download the original game will be able to play each other online and the patch, version 1.18, makes the game compatible with Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, as well as making it playable on Mac Beta 10.11 and upwards.
The developers have also added a windowed fullscreen mode, options to display the number of actions per minute, autosaving replays, and boosted the responsiveness during multiplayer online games.
As well as StarCraft, the free offering includes the Brood War expansion alongside remastered artwork.
