Okras are also known as Lady’s Fingers or Gumbos. My wife and I love eating « steemed » with some dipping sauce.
The Okra plants is a cousin of the hibiscus as you can tell from its flower:
Soon the flower will drop and the fruit will form at its place. It seems to self pollinate which is great as we don’t have that many bees around here, I’m working on it.
I leave the first fruit of each plant for harvesting the seeds. This one is old and dried, ready for harvest:
Of course, the best is when you get fresh Okras right from the plant to the kitchen, yum! These are going to get steamed to preserve as much taste and nutrients as possible:
