You guys may have already seen the #hayrunners tag floating around Steemit this week but for those who don't know.
We have a drought crisis down under. While most of the planet may envision stretches of beautiful beaches with gorgeous white sand, lush green expensive fields and stunning blue mountains the reality is, this is what a vast majority of Australia looks like.
For the past few weeks there has been a CALL TO ARMS for all Aussies to support our drought stricken farmers. My Facebook feed is filled with Aussies helping Aussies. Wether it be the nationwide Bunnings sausage sizzle, or efforts made by groups and individuals ~ everyone in Australia is pitching in.
Hayrunners had simple beginnings. A farmer heard of another farmer's plight, offered to drive him out some hay to help out and that was that. The Burrumbuttock Hayrunners was born.
Since 2014 they have completed 11 successful hay runs throught drought affected NSW & QLD. Their last run, #12, was in February 2017 and according to @bmj their next run will be in January 2019.
It is only fitting that Aussies on Steemit also lend a hand and help a mate, help a mate. It is only an added bonus that we can use this opportunity to promote Steemit in Australia in a way we have never done before.
Details still to come regarding the next run but at least we have a rough deadline and an amount to shoot for.
The BHR Steemit truck
It is our goal to sponsor a truck.
Why are we sponsoring a truck? Well other farmers in the country who have hay to spare donates the hay, the money we are raising will provide the fuel needed to get the trucks to their destination. The drivers donate their time and trucks. It's a huge group effort from everyone involved, one that makes me so proud to be Australian.
A truck will need approximately $2000 AUD to complete the trip.
To promote Steemit we will need to have a banner made to be placed on the truck. Depending on the size we could be looking at somewhere between $300 to $400 AUD. The sign will then be sent back to the team (or not) to be used on the next event.
Perhaps we can even make it team owned? So just say the @mallsballers needed it in Adelaide it can be sent there and so on. Just a thought.
Anyway... :) Our total target is $2500.
I want to thank @bmj for bringing this to Steemit. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately and I hope everyone can get behind this project.
