It is rather sad that I have to make this infographic considering humanity has made it through the 21th century. Over the last few years I realised that many people live in denial when it comes to simple concepts such as the effectiveness of vaccination for a variety of treatments. Many seem to forget the fact that without them most of us wouldn’t be reading this post.
Normally I wouldn’t even bother engaging in this subject since vaccination remains a personal choice for each and every person. Individual freedom is a natural right nobody should be denied. Nobody can force anyone to get a vaccine.
Nonetheless, since we are all living together in communal societies, I am writing this because I am concerned about my health. Mountains of evidence show that people who choose not to vaccinate their children or themselves are putting in risk everyone around them.
I thought about making a detailed post with academic papers in regards to the effectiveness of vaccination. I could debunk every single myth about autism, deaths, “chemicals” or other pedantic claims the anti-vaccine movement makes but it would be pointless. Presentation of evidence do not quite register to most people’s perception once they have made up their mind about something. I just hope a graph with numbers anyone can cross-check (even with their grandparents) can enlighten those who still choose to remain in the dark.
On a side note: Nobody doubts that the pharmaceutical companies are there to make a buck like every other company. Nobody questions the fact that many of them are dubious and downright fraudulent. What we are talking about here is about an effective medical treatment that has been tested over many years. Vaccines have a great record in reducing human mortality for common diseases that used to wipe humans by the tens of thousands. We are very lucky to have been born in this time and age. Just 200 years ago the average human lifespan was barely 37 years.
If you are an anti-vaxxer and you don’t want to receive treatment for yourself at least don’t sacrifice your kid’s health for the sake of your own stubbornness.
