Is having water during meals good or bad?

Our digestive system consists of a complex set up of organs which secrete enzymes, acids and much more. In order to digest food properly, these organs should work in tandem with each other. In case of proper digestion solid food and water both go hand in hand. Drinking water helps the body hydrated and softens the stools. So everyone must drink it on a regular basis during the daytime. It also helps digestive system to function properly. Nevertheless, there are various thoughts about drinking water during meals. Some people think that water should not be ingested during meals, while others denied this and say that it is good for digestion. So we must discover whether drinking water during meals is good for digestion or bad.

From the perspective of our stomach acids, most doctors say that having water with food will not cause any problem. Most people think that acidic fluid that secrets in our stomach may become too diluted with water and cause indigestion if we take water with food. But reliable hospitals and sources conducted several researches and found that the consumption of water with a meal doesn’t have any effect on the stomach’s pH balance.

However the stomach acids may not be affected by the consumption of water with a meal, there are other schools of thought where people avoid having water during a meal for better digestion. But the fact is that digestion is a complicated process where many organs and elements work together so that the entire food could be digested properly. A fit body and state of mind may be required for better digestion after one has a food. Otherwise, digestion could be interrupted. So, in order to accomplish better digestion, healthy food should be taken at the right time in a good environment and junk food must be avoided.

Drinking water with a food can prevent constipation by softening the stool. It also helps in removing the food stuck in digestive track so that the entire stool and toxins could be eliminated from the body. The digestive track becomes well-lubricated if you have water with food. Also, drinking water during meals prevents overeating because it occupies some space in your stomach. Moreover, water contains essential nutrients that our body needs along with food.
