The Senate in West Virginia just a few days ago decided to pass a bill that effectively legalizes industrial hemp in the state.
After unanimously passing the Senate vote, it has now passed on to the Gov. Justice for a final signature. Once signed for final approval, the new legislation-House Bill 2453-would allow for licenses to be given out to “qualified producers” as well as state institutions so that they could grow hemp.
Many in the state believe that moving to legalize the crop and embrace it, might help to turn around the state's economy.
There are many individuals in WV who have already expressed interest in taking part in growing industrial hemp. They only need to wait for the proper permission first before they can go ahead and exercise the freedom to grow this plant.
It's unclear whether or not the bill will see final approval, despite many community members having demonstrated support for wanting to see an industrial hemp market embraced within the state.
WV isn't the only place where there are movements to legalize industrial hemp either, it seems that more people around the US are starting to look to hemp and consider the variety of benefits that can come from growing it.
There are literally thousands of possible uses for it and it could really go a long way in providing job and economic growth.
There are similar legalization efforts underway in places like Pennsylvania, Hawaii, New Mexico, North Carolina, and others. For an economy that could sure use some legitimate growth opportunity, it wouldn't hurt to consider the vastly lucrative possibility surrounding the industrial hemp market.
Several years ago the 2014 Farm Bill was passed and a certain section in the bill established the permission for universities and state departments of agriculture to start growing industrial hemp for some limited purposes.
At least 30 states have already passed legislation relating to industrial hemp.
State authorities have allowed for growing the hemp but they've been slow in welcoming the market. No doubt their rigid and strict approach in going about providing permission slips to potential growers, surely contributes to stunting the potential valuable growth that could be had.
Freedom in allowing people to grow this crop and create a variety of products: food, textiles, paper, and more, is what would create many jobs, and likely an abundance of new wealth.
