Newbie post - The thing that makes Snapchat different.

What I'm about to say everyone knows but I rather be the one to address the elephant in the room. Snapchat is the buzzing social media platform that somehow has captured not just teenagers but baby boomers who run their own companies.

So what is it that makes Snapchat different from Vine or Periscope? I talked with a friend and I like how he summed it up. You can let down your hair with Snapchat. Many of us know nearly everyone puts up a front on Facebook. Twitter is your news outlet for people to hear it from the horse's mouth.

And Youtube is practically the 21st century shut-in movie theater for millenials because, why go outside if your favorite anime, cartoon or clips of tv shows can be found on Youtube. Snapchat however, people have used that to give people a glimpse of their real life.

The emotions displayed are real, the response is real. Snapchat has delivered authentic reality TV unlike the actual reality TV shows.

On a side note for those who know their social media history one can't help but laugh when you think about how adults controlled Myspace until teenagers took over Myspace. Facebook came on the scene where teenagers migrated to. Eventually the same adults that lost Myspace to teenagers have now taken Facebook from the teenagers.

And it seems as though the rule of thumb, as a young person if your family or parents are on the social media you are using you need to leave ASAP. This of course is just my theory as to why Tumblr became so popular because it was the next haven for teenagers to be themselves without judgement.

I digress and I will get back to the point, Snapchat has the same components of Tumblr except it is better because Snapchat's content is not based upon how many likes you received. Thus the problem with Instagram. People think that if they did not get a lot of likes they need to change strategies to receive more likes, thus in doing so the authenticity that someone started with gradually becomes dilluted down over time. And next thing you know you have the current Instagram.

You see multiple times of the same image that different people are sharing. For as with Snapchat the probablility of seeing the same content twice is very low compared Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook and especially Twitter.

With all of this being said, Steemit in my newbie opinion could suffer the same fate if people simply write or share content based upon how many votes, money or comments received. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this with the intention of making Steemit a more sustainable and reputable social media platform.
