A One Pot Dish is any cook's favourite; ask anyone who's ever made dishes like Lasagne just how the dishes seem to multiply - the Pasta pot, the Meat sauce pot, the Béchamel Sauce pot and the Lasagne baking dish!
However, if you were living in 1896, you perhaps would not have minded as you could have used the dishwasher below and spared your delicate hands ;)

All jokes aside, one pot dishes usually are real hearty winter meals like Soup, Chowder, Stews, Casseroles, Curries, Chili, Tagines, Hot Pots, to name but a few.
I will be sharing a one pot Hearty Beef Cobbler, but am hearing some of my American friends saying it's a Beef & Biscuit Casserole!
Nevertheless, this hearty meal is sure to fill many hungry mouths.
I used boneless Beef Soft Shin with seasonal Vegetables and Lentils and topped with Chive Scones or Biscuits ;)
RECIPE
- Approx 700 gram boneless Beef Soft Shin cubed
- 1 Onion diced
- 1-2 Leeks sliced
- 3-4 Carrots diced
- 3-4 Potatoes diced in chunky cubes
- 1 small Cauliflower
- 1 can Lentils
- 1 pkt Brown Onion Soup Powder or gravy powder
Brown onions & meat in a little oil, cover with beef stock and cook slowly for approx 1 hour, topping up with liquid as required.
Layer vegetables on top, adding more liquid to just cover contents & cook till vegetables are done.
Spoon lentils on top and thicken liquid with soup powder or gravy powder.
Chive Scone Recipe
- 2 cups Self Raising Bran rich flour
- 5 ml Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 100 gram Butter
- Shallots or Spring Onions finely diced
- 1 Egg
- 150 ml Milk
Mix dry ingredients with a whisk, rub in butter & add Shallots
Beat together the egg & milk & mix into dry ingredients to a soft dough
Pat out onto a floured board, cut into circles & place on top of stew, brush with an egg wash.
Bake in oven at 180°C for 15-20 min.
