"Alright, cadets, here’s the situation — a deadly storm approaches, an alien swarm chews its way to you through steel and stone, an armored zombie rushes you! How do you react?”
“We focus on the immediate threat, sir!”
“Excellent! But you’re still dead!”
“...?”
“You maneuver, rookies!”
Greetings, Hive!
This is my entry for the weekly ZapFic challenge by @felt.buzz. Follow the link to learn more about it!
I took this photograph from right outside my tent near Cape Shabla.
It was on a fine...almost fine summer...almost summer evening in 2018. Well, technically it was summer but still quite rainy, windy, and chilly for the season. It was July but it was kind of behaving like May.
Aperture F 8; Shutter Speed 29 seconds (on Bulb mode, the one I recommend for capturing lightning bolts); ISO 100; Focal Length 24 mm.
My old Canon EOS 30 D camera body. A small tripod that required my squatting for long periods before I could release the trigger. Because...somebody was not ready with a remote trigger. I won't be telling you who that would be. Holding the trigger by hand (in Bulb mode) for minutes at a time is both not comfortable and risky. Easy to make the camera tremble a bit and ruin the sharpness of the image. To some degree, not avoidable, actually. A compromise already made due to technicalities. The things that are not my things when it comes to photography. Nope, I am not a techie at all.
But I like to maneuver. Or is it the vice versa I have been doing all along? Staying in one place. not adapting? All true. Go figure. It depends on the perspective.
When a zombie fills up your screen, it's hard to focus on anything beyond it. When you use a zoom lens, you fragmentize reality even further. But you can see far. When you use a wide-angle lens, you can see a bigger picture. But less detailed. You have to maneuver between the two. Or beyond them.
Not to be confused with manure. Which is also a strategy.
And I like storms. Storms are beautiful. Beautiful things often come in pairs with discomfort.
Anyway, go and Zap in. In the challenge, that is.
Good luck and have fun!
And mind your zombies!
Yours,
Manol
