We are nearing the last full moon before the winter solstice, the long night moon (Wednesday night). We move into this time, where the light of the moon will be fullest before retreating to celebrate the dark along with the sun's shortest days of the year.
Before the light leaves and we have the gift of moonlight nearing it’s peak, let us gaze into those deepest, darkest corners of ourselves. Be not afraid of anything that is truly a part of you ~ as all life is sacred, your very existence means you are a sacred being, living in sacred space. Just as we honor each other, we must equally honor ourselves. Looking inward we are headed inside of ourselves for introspection, to discover and love ourselves unconditionally, completely, compassionately. Peering outward, we are granted the opportunity to discover and love each other unconditionally, completely, compassionately. The gift we are given to complete this task, I believe, is heartsong.
Many moons ago I learned a special word at my first rainbow gathering: heartsong . It is one of the most treasured words in my vocabulary. Perhaps a definition for heartsong would be pure communications in sacred space. It is the concept that one speaks directly from the heart; it’s raw, naked spirit laid bare before another. It is an intimacy in communicating that allows for growth, for healing. It is a vital component in the building blocks of consciousness, and it is beyond measure in its value in the quest to become one with the universe.
Heartsong can happen between a group of collective individuals, between two individuals, or even with oneself. Opening ourselves in the fashion of a lotus, each petal a different feeling or understanding from * being here now *, a unique position at all times!
During gatherings it is not uncommon to find a circle of humans sitting, often in a natural setting. From hand to hand passes a feather, and while the one holding the feather is talking, all others remain silent and attentive, listening and being receptive to the perspective being spoken. Speakers are mindful to convey their story, or their feelings, or their response to the heartsong of another in a respectful manner, as there is a mutual understanding of honoring all paths of beauty.
Heartsong between two people can be more intimate than physical touch. When you allow yourself to trust in speaking your truth ~ humbly and without attitude or expectation ~ you are also giving yourself permission to speak aloud those unsaid ripples that come from our core, our inner being. This empowers us to stay balanced and in perfect trust, perfect love, with the living universe.
Sometimes the best heartsong can be found in talking with ourselves. A mirror can aid in this task, if you are a more visually stimulated person. Personally I practice this when I get the opportunity to be alone in the woods, as nature is truly a sacred space for me no matter what. I take the time to breathe, and process whatever I am feeling. However, sometimes adding a voice to hear aloud is the real magic ~ affirmation. I may speak, cry, say aloud what I am thinking.
Each turning of the wheel has it’s own medicine. During this time, the long night moon gives us a boost of light to carry us through the darkest time of the year until the light returns to both the sun and moon. Gratefully, gracefully accept this gift of the natural clock to charge your spirit. Amplify this energy by participating in it through introspection and heartsong. Be willing to truly open yourself, confident in the knowledge that you are tapping into sacred medicine and creating magic in the world around you.
