What things could we do differently to reduce climate change? | QOTW Season 10.2

As a longtime #vegetarian, I've known about the environmental impact of a plant-based diet for a long time. And although debates are still ongoing, we already know from the many studies done that plant-based food produces significantly lower levels of greenhouse gasses than meat production - beef production in particular is the biggest culprit of them all.

That said, I still feel that being vegetarian isn't enough to help mitigate the effects of climate change on the planet and people on a personal level. For this post, I would like to share some of my thoughts on the matter.

#1 Cycling

First of all, I think that on a personal level it would be awesome if I got a bicycle and used it whenever I go to the farmers' market or the grocery store. It is nice to be able to exercise, especially if my destination is just a short distance from where I live. Another reason for me to get one would be to use it on weekend rides with a few buddies of mine and explore some of the nicer spots in the region. I haven't had the chance to explore the place since we moved here because of the pandemic but now might be a good opportunity for me to explore and see what hidden gems I can find in the back roads and mountainous trails. It is also a great way to improve my health overall and a nice homage to the fight against climate change so this would be at the top of my wish list for now.

#2 Walking

The next one I have on my list: to do more walking. Since, I live close to the department store, farmers' market, malls, etc., I believe that it is a great way to reduce carbon dioxide by putting on my kicks and strolling around to where I want to go. Walking is good for the heart, helps burn calories, and reduces anxiety, which are all fantastic reasons to walk around. Some research also indicate that walking is a great activity for people with diabetes and is an easy-low impact exercise for the elderly. Walking can be done solo or with a friend, and this makes it even more awesome than it already is. Whether it's a nice stroll around the community with the love of your life or taking your dog out for a fun and interesting ramble down the next alley, there are plenty of reasons to take up walking as an everyday activity. I believe that this is a no-brainer to add on to my list.

#3 Solar Energy

Last but not least, I was already contemplating about the possibility of putting up a couple of solar panels on our roof for a while now. This might really be good for mother earth, as well as my bank account. With high electric bills and power interruptions regularly occurring, having an off-grid system in place could be practical. Of course, I need to save up a few thousand dollars for this goal, but it might be well worth it in the end.
