Art Talk: Agave stained glass window- Part 1- with videos

I am talking a stained glass class at the local community center. It is so great!

You might remember the post I did when I took the class for the first time this past summer.
Art Talk: My first stained glass piece

I am now working on a 18x20 Agave. I will show you the project so far. For those that know me well, you know I really love the agave plant and so it is the subject of my stained glass window this time.

It is a 8 week class and we just finished our 4th class.

The Cartoon

The pattern for a stained glass piece is called a cartoon. I made my cartoon using a pictures I took an enlarged to 18x20 and put it on the light table to sketch it out. Then I went home and traced the lines with a sharpie.

Blue

The agave has different shades of blues and greens. Here are the blue pieces cut out and put on the cartoon.

Blues and Greens

Now the greens are cut and look so great with the blues!

Here are the pieces before and after they were cut.

Amber colored background

I was vacillating between this amber yellow and a clear background. The amber color is very beautiful and really highlights the greens and blues.

With all the pieces cut it is now time to grind, copper foil and solder.
