I spent one day in Atlanta, Georgia in early June and filled it with places I love- gardens and museums and then a special treat, an amusement park. What a great day it was. Let me show you the High Museum of Art .

I wondered around the museum for a while then went on a tour.
Sol LeWitt
First, one side of this atrium is filled with a Sol LeWitt installation.

Impressionists
I made my way to one of my favorite times in art history- impressionism.

Albrecht Durer
Close to the Impressionist area there was an impressive collection of etchings of Albrecht Durer from the early 1500s.
These are close ups for two etchings.

Tour
In the afternoon I joined the museum tour. For me this is the BEST way to see the museum. It give me more knowledge and context for all the art work I am seeing.
Bruce Onobrakpeya
Bruce is a Nigerian painter that was have a special exhibition in the museum. He did a lot of religious art. You will see some of the stations of the cross, the Last Supper and Mother and Child.
Bruce is a contemporary artist and is 90 years old and still making incredible art.

La Farge
This piece was especially interesting to me since I have started working in stained glass. I even showed those on the tour my stained glass agave.
The art piece was set up so we could see both the front and back.

Johann Mengels Culverhouse
This was an exceptional painting! I have never heard of Culverhouse before seeing this painting. His rendering of light is incredible.
El Anatsi
Another contemporary artist we saw was El Anatsi who is from Ghana and uses discarded bits of aluminum from the necks and tops of local liquor bottles to form this art that looks like a traditional cloth of West Africa.

Winfred Rembert
Winfred is another new artist I was introduced to on this tour. He is American and lived 1945-2021. This piece, The Dirty Spoon Cafe was created in 2002 and is made of dye and carved on tooled leather. Leather!

Anish Kapoor
I have seen a lot of Anish Kapoor's work in the past couple of months and I really like it! This one is especially incredible. The light and color refracting all over the place was magical.
Anish was born in 1954 in India and is most famous for The Bean in Chicago.

Speaking of Chicago. The tour consisted of me and a family from Chicago. We were such a small group and became close. We go a picture all together.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the High Museum. Here are few more pieces that I captured as I wandered through the museum.
