MOON Dev log - First Week after Game Launch

This is a long-overdue post. We launched MOON just over a week ago, on April 19th. Following the launch, a flurry of changes has occurred. The response from the community has been majority positive, with players having fun, learning about the game's systems and sharing feedback. Getting the game into the hands of players has accelerated our learning curve. We have been working to address feedback, squash bugs, and enhance the gameplay experience.

As we speak there are 96 fleets moving through MOON space.

We've also seen a few heated debates, such as whether players should have the option to turn off European number formatting. It's been a wild week, and we're humbled by the enthusiasm that MOON has sparked. As we continue to refine and expand the game, we look forward to sharing more updates and hearing from our dedicated community. This is only Universe 1.

In the first few days, some issues were reported by mobile players. With the aid of a couple of helpful Hivers, mitigations were added to smooth out the "log in with Hive" function. Mobile players also identified an issue with Hive-Engine token transfers related to token precision. A workaround was added in MOON, and feedback was shared with the Hive Keychain team. The Keychain team, as always, was very responsive and has already made a fix in the Hive Keychain mobile app. Shout out to @stoodkev for the assist.

Several issues were raised regarding language. Language packs are available for French, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, English, and German. There are many inconsistencies between the language packs, so we have been adjusting and fixing language issues as they are reported.

Various other changes were made to the game:

  • The Galaxy page was updated to display more Alliance Pact information. The color PURPLE
represents a Non-aggression Pact, and the color YELLOW represents a Trade Pact.
  • Several game pages were updated to display a numeric keyboard for mobile players to enter numbers, rather than a full alphanumeric keyboard. This makes a huge difference when you want to type in numbers on your mobile device.
  • Hive account avatars - players who registered with Hive have their Hive profile photo displayed in-game.

  • Discord alerts - went through many iterations to find the right balance between information sharing and highlighting the living universe. The alerts were also upgraded from simple text to prettier embed cards.
  • Added a message to the Galaxy page to warn new players about browsing through systems costing some Uranium fuel.

Overall, I hope players enjoy the game. I also understand that this text-based strategy game is not for everyone. If you want to try MOON, you can find the game at https://moon.hive.pizza. Come get MOONed!
