These were taken in Palmyra in Syria in 2008. These are some of the ruins of one of the most powerful and significant city the world has seen. As a trading post on the Silk Road it became one of the leading cities in the Orient. On the UNESCO’ World Heritage List in 1980, but in 2013 it was on the list of endangered World Heritage Sites, because of the war and destructions o monuments.
