MONOMAD - Bench with a view

DSC_54.jpg

The photo was taken in Denmark. The place is Vitskøl Kloster - Vitskøl Monastery - located near Løgstør. The benches are placed outside the wall that surrounds the monastery foundet by the Cistercian monks. Vitskøl Monastery was meant to be the largest church building in the Nordic countries. Construction began in the year 1158, when King Valdemar the Great donated the area and estate to the monks to thank God for one of his victories. The Cistercian Order monks brought many medicinal herbs to Vitskøl Monastery, some of which continue to grow wild today. Others are gathered in the large herb garden with more than 100 different medicinal herbs, which in recent times have made Vitskøl Monastery famous and one of the reasons many people visit the monastary.
