Week 250 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Mischievous Mermaid

Hello, hello! ๐Ÿฅณ

Holy crap... I had a mini heart attack ๐Ÿ˜ I really thought I lost the .clip file of this art. In the back of my mind, I was thinking about how I can explain my art process step by step. ๐Ÿคฃ I only had the PNG file for the final art. I found the .clip file outside of the folder mixed with other files. Phew! It was a relief! And my dumbass forgot that I can search the name file on the search bar. HAHA! There is no way I can redraw exactly per layer. Also, I might get disqualified, right? ๐Ÿ˜… Friday is my lucky day woohoo!

For this week, I chose Mischievous Mermaid

Art Process

First, I look for references to mermaid poses. I would imagine my mermaid resting on some corals and rocks. The hair is voluminous so, some chunks of hair are floating. I just go in the random direction of the hair. I used a solid pencil brush for the line art. Currently, I am learning anatomy and proportions by Brunet. Also, I ordered some art books so damn, I have to blog more to recover the cost, haha.

Pink and green look good together here. ๐Ÿ˜ I almost forgot she has green skin! My brain was on auto-pilot! ๐Ÿคฃ I almost color it with peach. I added more hair in the background just for balance. I just cut the hands because later on, they will be covered with corals. I admit I am still struggling with drawing hands. So to save time, I hide them behind the corals because my time will be consumed on the hair. For the background, I used the gradient tool and airbrushing more white on top.

I put some corals in front of the character to hide the hands. I added a layer on top to color the corals. Originally, I colored them orange and blue but it did not go well with the overall palette. So, I chose pink and purple instead. For the shadowing of the skin, I put them where the hair would cover it. on top of the dark green shadow, I also incorporated pale purple.

I used a soft brush for the hair's shine and erased the edges using an airbrush. Hmm, I downloaded it for hair shines but it got pixelated. I don't know if it was the setting or the size of my canvas. Ending, I bought it with clippy points. sigh I added another layer on top to make the shine more intensify. I also put shines on the shoulder and hips.

Final Art

In the background, I added fishes, of course, I did not draw them manually, or else, I will go crazy! ๐Ÿคฃ That fish brush was sitting on my tools for a long time and I think it is perfect to add to this art. Added bubbles and blur some for depths. On top of all the layers, I put a monochrome texture and set it at 5 percent opacity. The last touch is adding highlights on the nose and lips.

I thought this was perfect for MerMay, damn. ๐Ÿ˜† Maybe next year? ๐Ÿ˜
