This entry of mine is different from the usual format that I submit. This SPL entry will be my last one for this year so I want to end it with the most festive way. 🥳 I thought of making a Christmas card edition, making it Christmasy as ever~😆
Art Process
For this art, I included two cards, Water caller and Axemaster.
There is no reason behind why I chose this character. I think I have already drawn them separately for entries. Water Caller is one of my first entries in the art contest. She was in a chibi form back then. 😊
I just want a simple pose and simple lineart. There were a lot of references for Christmas and I chose a side by side standing pose of the characters. I used different layers and colors for the cards. At the top, I will be putting the words "Merry Christmas" plus, Christmas details like festive bells, star cookies, and the SPL logo on the background.
Wind caller is so cute in a reindeer headband. She received a gift whom he secret Santa. Who could it be? 😊 Axemaster has a massive sack to put all the gifts from his friends. 😊
I picked green and red for the clothing. I wanted Axemaster to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. 😅 We do not have that tradition here but I believe you have to wear a weird or embarrassing sweater in the theme of Christmas. 😆 I then worked on the shadowings and details on the face and on the clothing. To make it easier for Axemaster's clothing detail, I just drew I element and then copied and pasted it.
I worked more on the shadowings on the clothing. I straight clipped the base layer and applied the color in "normal" instead of "multiply" mode which I usually do. Next, I chose a bright red as the background. I then used the Text tool for the "Merry Christmas". I chose two fun fonts for the words. I then downloaded bells and stars images from the asset store for decoration.
Final Art
Since the clothing and background are red, I put a white border to make the characters pop from the background. I added more of the cookie stars and the SPL monster logo. I just randomly scatter them in the background as decorations. Lastly, added the noise texture.
