Mermaid Healer for Splinterlands Art contest!

Splinterlands Art Contest

Hello guys, it's time for a new Splinterlands Art for this week's contest. I decided to draw Mermaid Healer in my style for this. Also I'm a bit confused about what the theme for this week is because I saw that they mentioned sps dao as theme in the blog title but inside, it looked like the format for our regular contest so I decided to draw the sps dao crystal as well with this character to avoid any confusion and this is how it came out :)

The Process

  • Started by drawing a rough sketch using this reference I found from Pinterest.

  • After I was done with that I made clean lineart.

  • Painted the base colours first. Souce of light is from top side for this painting.

  • Started rendering the skin first paintings shades according to the source of light. Also did the same thing on her eyes.

1000016523.png

  • Started working on her hair at this point. Added rough highlights and shadows on her hair.

1000016525.png

  • Refined the strands of her hair using penfade brush on multiply and add layer for creating light and dark strands. Alos began to shade her white clothes at this point.

  • Added bounce light on her clothes and started working on the red areas of her clothes.

1000016530.png

  • Painted more darker shades on her skin to make it look a bit more 3D. The read areas of the clothes are finally done rendering so I began to paint other areas such as her teara and the gemstone inside it. Also painted the darker shades on her ear shells.

  • Fully painted the shells at this point and moved on to painting the sps dao crystal near her hands.

1000016528.png

  • it's time to paint the background now. She is a water elemental so I decided to make a background which resembles water and painted some water based plants.as well to immerse her into the background. After that I made the crystal glow using an airbrush on add layer. After this I refined the painting and added bubbles as a finishing touch.
