Why did Leonardo DiCaprio deserve an Oscar at Shutter Island? - Review

We always look for the title and a movie story before watching them, but in Leonardo DiCaprio films it is completely different. Once you hear the name of the hero Leonardo, you are quick to go to the cinema or to the movie platforms to see the movie.

Today we have a psychologically complex film with a lot of questions and puzzles, from start to finish. Leonardo DiCaprio was creatively indescribable in 2010 so everyone was surprised at not getting an Oscar Award that year.

Date of launch: March 10, 2010
Director: Martin Scorsese

The story of the movie

The story of the movie initially revolves around an investigator on a ship who is going to one of the islands where there is a mental hospital, and one of the patients has disappeared from there.
Here, his role is to search for the cause of the disappearance, but as soon as he steps foot in the island, he notices many strange things that happen inside the hospital and turns from a researcher on the patient to an investigator looking for crimes that occur inside the hospital.
It became clear to him after exploring that doctors in the hospital and the guards were conducting experiments on the brains of patients in a manner that was contrary to humanity and reason. Once the hospital doctors discover this and the top guards start trying to get rid of him so that he doesn't find out the truth.
Here Leonardo starts escaping from them until he reaches an area in a mountain hut, where he finds the girl who managed to escape and that came mainly to search here. Here, she tells him everything that is happening in the hospital from inhuman experiences and how she escaped from them to that place.
He decides to get rid of them and take revenge for what they did and go to the top of the tower with a pistol to get rid of the chief neuroscientist, and here the film turns 180 degrees, so we discover here that the delusional patient here is Leonardo DiCaprio, who had schizophrenia occurred after his wife was killed and imagine himself an investigator looking for enemies.
Analysts tried to create the conditions for him to find himself actually a detective and then discover what happened to him during that journey, but it seems that he lost control of his mind until he could not change his personality.

An impression of the movie

We have an excellent movie in every sense of the representation, direction and thought, and although the movie was old before the era of cameras and the huge production that we live in now, the director was able to come out with the film in the best image and that giant Leonardo helped him embody the character as it should.
The movie did not make us doubt a moment about the character of the hero detective, whose signs of self-confidence appear to be like a law school or the police, and not a psychopath with whom schizophrenia appears.

Hero

Without any introductions, Leonardo Di Decaprio was the biggest factor in the success of the film and I believe that no actor could perform this great performance in terms of schizophrenia.
He is an officer who was affected by the war, then returned to find his wife killed, so he transformed from a healthy person to a troubled person looking for the reason for his wife's death, so he would find a personal investigator.

Why didn't the movie get an Oscar?

I think the main reason that the film did not get the Oscar was a weakness in the film, which is photography and production.
The film did not collect the full elements that would enable it to obtain an Oscar this year despite the performance and the story, but it lacked many elements such as music and audio. And photography. And I think if the movie had been produced in an advanced year, for example 2015 or 2016 and not in 2010, it would have been a tough competition for Oscars.
