A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

We sit together on the cushions, yet silence prevails. Each of us is overwhelmed by the unfolding event we had only dared to dream about. Kreytu continues to shake his head.

“We're here,” I sigh.
“I don't know why we're here and how long we can stay. They might come to inform us of their mistake, and we'll be politely escorted outside again. But for now, we're inside.” I can't help but smile, like a child in disbelief, receiving his first real bow.

“The Sikh doesn't make these kinds of mistakes. Rest assured, we're here for a reason. But we don't have to worry. The fact that we're allowed into the palace means that he's receiving us because of something that pleases him. If we weren't to his liking in any way, we would have been, at most, housed in a military quarter. Then one of the generals would handle the matter. The fact that we're in here means that the Sikh personally has something to do with us, or one of us,” Dadrie replies.

“As long as he knows Cabilah is my wife,” Kreytu laughs.

“No, the Sikh isn't a man to have multiple wives. He may occasionally have a slave or something brought to his room, but he seems too serious for that. Besides, he's allowed to have as many women as he wants, and he only has one. But she doesn't ride in the carriage with him, which means he thinks less of her than himself,” Dadrie continues.

“It must be something else, and I'm very curious about what we could help him with. It's not something military, let alone something financial. No, everything points to a personal note. I only see one possibility."

"You, Numico, you are the reason. You told us several times that you would speak to the Sikh. That you saw him, tried to speak to him, and that you had the feeling that he saw you. Is that correct?” Numico nods as Dadrie continues.

“It may seem strange, but what if he has also seen you? If he senses your desire to speak to him or has the same desire? Did you also notice that he not only looked longer but also seemed startled by something as he passed us?" I nod in agreement, then all eyes turn to Numico.

The boy seems to blush: “I think there is a fair amount of truth in your conclusion, Dadrie. I don't know exactly what happened, but I felt something of recognition when he looked at us. Possibly from myself, possibly from him. What I do know is that I've never seen this man in person until today. Yet my description of him is correct in every detail."

"During those seconds this afternoon, I even felt like I was seeing someone I knew. If I feel that and have 'dreamed' him so many times, there's definitely a chance it's mutual. I've had that feeling for a long time. It seems logical to me to assume for the time being that this is the reason for our presence here.”

Kreytu looks at the boy in disbelief: “I'm sorry. Your ideas that I have heard over the past few months are all well and good, but why would the Sikh be interested in a mountain boy of barely 15 summers? It all sounds too vague. But at the same time, I have to admit that so many things have happened recently that I don't fully understand, that I am slowly starting to believe that it could well be.”

Numico laughs, “It doesn't matter, Kreytu. When I look in the mirror, I sometimes think, what would a lord like the Sikh want with me, a farmer's son? But I own something he wants. Something he can't reach himself."

He is aware of his role, not of his impact, but he certainly knows that he is a special man. He is not stupid or kept dumb. He is lonely and prefers solitude. Yet he does not use his time poorly. He studies, he knows more than you and I about this world, but he is missing something. It's not fulfilling. It is empty, just as this palace is empty. Just like the feeling you get when you roam around this city, there is a sense of blankness out there I never felt before."

"What is lacking here is fulfillment from and for the soul and possibly souls. This place lacks the desire to do something from the heart, as if the heart was taken out. Taken away from him so early that he does not know of its existence."

"He has always ruled, never been criticized, never rebuked, never taught in a mature way. The teachings he received were to provide education, knowledge prepared for those who need to lead. Presented in a way that left no room for personal input. They were the laws he was to follow, and he followed. The man is tired of emptiness. I have the impossible-seeming task of giving back his feelings.”
