Beyond Doubt (2).jpg

Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 18

Dear Reader, after a very long doubt you are now on your way, you have no idea where to, but that way back is as good as closed

You took that step, let go of what held you back, and now you're floating somewhere in the unknown.

* How do you like it, frightening, liberating, insecure, or determined to succeed?*

Well guess you have no choice, onwards and upwards and I will be there with you all the way.

When I reach the tree, I put my hands on its trunk and close my eyes.

The power of the tree pours into my body through my hands, like a warm glow. Its energy is so strong that it warms and relaxes my tired body. I feel the life force of the tree, which has to make itself strong to survive since germination.

And then for years, it resists the sucking current, which tries to uproot it from the ground from which it springs. Till the day it rises firm enough from the ever-present water, and it sets up its trunk as a barricade and empties the stream.

I think it is a safe idea not to stay on the ground when I rest during the day. I am too easy prey for any pursuers or unknown tribes that wander here. With a few dexterous movements, I fling myself into the tree. Moments later, I am in the crown, surrounded by leaves, leaning against one of the trunks.

It is time to rest for a while and satisfy my beginning hunger with a piece of dried meat. I drink some water to soften the dry hunk of meat and wash it away. The peace that the tree gives me puts me in a meditative mood. I close my eyes and focus my attention on the gentle lapping of the water.

I wake up feeling like I am falling, which is quite possible since I am high up in the tree. Something upsets my balance. The river prevents me from hearing much, which only allows me to take in the surroundings with my eyes.

Having made sure, from this higher point, that there is no hominin to be seen anywhere in the vicinity, I make my way down and wade to the other side of the river.

The side I have never been on.

After several hours of walking and climbing, the river narrows and curves eastward. The trees with the high roots disappear and give way to the usual deciduous trees, which I know so well from our own valley. Although there are fewer of them here.

The terrain becomes increasingly rocky and especially drier. To find the dragon's point I have to keep following the cliff face, which means I can't see or hear the river for quite some time. The area I am in is getting rougher with every few steps. Here and there are strange plants. They are low to the ground, with long pointed leaves. The leaves are thick and hard, not like the plants I know, whose leaves are soft and pliable.

The number of trees decreases, they are slowly replaced by a tree or plant, which is not clear to me, with long needles. The trees that still grow there are smaller and seem very tough. It is difficult to get through this area undercover.

All I can do is walk close to the rock wall, but fatigue set in several hours ago and I don't feel like walking the inhospitable rocky area along the stone wall. Besides, I wonder what dangers lurk in the caverns of the wall, as the story of the dragon plays through my mind.

The company here on this dry plain consists, as far as I can see, of serpents, small rodents, and immeasurable insects. It are the beetles in particular that regularly keep crossing my path. Those Torres represent a lot of hard work ahead.

I am almost sure that any pursuers have given up by now. The plane is now so open that I should have noticed another person. And who would venture near the dragon's rock so close to dark?

An unprecedented tiredness seizes me, I have not felt this weak in a long time. Of course, I had a long journey, and the tension that my flight brought with it naturally also weighs in. Still, I am impressed by my own fatigue. I hope I will soon find that rock. As these thoughts go through my head I see a beautiful rock rise above me in the orange light of the setting sun.

This has to be it. It actually looks like the rocks from the stories, but more imposing than I imagine. Glad that this hard first day is coming to an end, I quicken my pace toward the rock face. Looking for a good place to spend the night.

I would prefer to spend the night in a tree, safe and invisible to passers-by. Unfortunately, this area does not offer me that opportunity, it is too dry to grow a decent tree. The rocks are the only place I can take refuge. It does involve a lot of risk, it means that I have to build a fire to keep the animals away, but at the same time, I will be visible to every human being for miles around. But my options are limited, besides, it won't be the most crowded place here at night, I tell myself.
