Beyond Doubt: Whispers of the Unseen - Chapter 61

Beyond Doubt (2).jpg

Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 61

Dear Reader, Music as a weapon, how effective is that?

Are notes stronger than bullets and did the protest songs from the sixties and seventies hasten the American withdrawal from Vietnam?

Or did they sing at the front:

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace.

Only to take up arms again and die for God and country.

They are surrounded by rocks. There is no clear path. Retsj looks at Numico questioningly and somewhat uncertainly, as if he has woken up in a nightmare. The young boy's eyes look frightened for a moment, but then they start to shine.

“Yes, yes, nice job. You just forgot that I can feel your presence when I want to.” In a few steps, he reaches the ledge under which we are hidden. Spluttering with laughter we emerge from under the ledge and climb to the plateau where the boys are.

Retsj is no longer unsure but looks at Numico in a daze. "They really got us Retsj." Numico walks up to the giant, who has easily broken the rope that held him captive and has cut the knots so that his hands are free again.

"How?" Retsj speaks slowly.

"I have an idea," Numico looks at Cabilah. "What's the last thing you remember Retsj?"

"Cabilah's singing, very beautiful singing."

“Remember when I've been through something like this before?”

Retsj looks thoughtful, "That's true, but I wasn't sensitive to it at the time."

"Big Man, I think you've been around people for too long. There's something magical about her voice. As long as you're not used to listening to the people around you, you aren't susceptible. Now it clearly changed. My question, however, is what about you?" Numico looks at me slyly.

"Well, there must be a difference, but don't expect too much. My experience with visions and meditation made me aware that I was drifting out of my body. Which made me want to know how strong the enchanting voice of our friend was. Well, you can bet that she is powerful. You allowed everything we asked of you, no doubt no resistance."

We return to the path a few meters below us, along the way Cabilah tells Numico that she was never aware of her voice. She actually only sang when she was outside, far away from her uncle. She only now noticed that there was more to her singing after I pointed out the effects to her.

Retsj hears it all. When I look back, I see his eyes shining. “Cabilah, You need not to worry about being a burden to us anymore. Your voice is stronger than swords,” says the giant.

Cabilah looks gratefully at the forest man. She beams for the first time since our trip. The discovery of her power has a very refreshing effect. The girl who often wears an invisible but heavy blanket of sadness around her now seems to be walking on air. Her back is straighter, and her face is so much more open. The difference is so blatant that it only now strikes me how beautiful she actually is.

The path becomes steeper, a little further on, we will walk around the mountain wall, which temporarily obscures our view of what comes next. It is clear that the path will continue to climb for a while before we reach the mountain pass which is even more narrow. I hope my calculations are correct. If that is the case, it means that we only have to spend one night here on this mountain.

I can´t remember having climbed this much and we still have another hour or two of light. Then darkness will swallow this mountain, and the cold will rear its ugly head. The environment does not provide good protection against our enemies, wherever we might take shelter. Fire is absolutely impossible; the glow can be seen from the base, and as I have not yet discovered any caves, we will have to sleep in the open air.

I hope that we can find a spot somewhere away from the path, but this also seems impossible. There are ledges and overhangs, but nothing big enough to set up camp or at least provide three and a half adults and a dog with a place to rest. I walk on, musing, toying with the idea of continuing to walk tonight. After all, the current moon could offer us some light.

In the meantime, we went around the wall that was previously in front of us. Behind the wall, we discover a vast plain. The path suddenly becomes much wider and stretches for another at least ten paces. This plateau, nestled between mountain peaks, is a strange sensation. "The mother always creates a special scene when you least expect it," Retsj says.

This offers possibilities, but staring into the distance along the path, I quickly lose my joy. Where I had hoped for a pass and a descent, the road still winds around ridges, and as far as my eyes can see there is no descent, just more mountains.

In the corner of my right eye, I see a coppery flicker; it happens quickly, and I have no idea what to attribute it to. Out of curiosity, I go to the spot where I just saw that sparkle.

Before I locate the source of the glare there is a scream, I turn around and see Cabilah being grabbed from behind by two soldiers wearing black.
