Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.
As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 93

It was almost dark, and I expected the light in the house to come on at any moment. I didn't have to wait long; a large window at the front was soon illuminated, and I saw for a moment what looked like two shadows—that's all I could make out. After staring for a long time, I gave up; it was better to help Numico set up camp. In any case, it would yield more.
After dinner, I kept watch under some skins on the edge of the abyss. It took me way too long, and I fell asleep twice. Luckily, both times I woke up to find the light in the main room still on.
Shortly after my second awakening, it went out, only to come on again on the top floor. There were two windows lit on the second floor with one unlit window in between. This became a small problem, or at least a risk. Because if I were to immediately light the torch, the other person might also see it from his window. Fortunately, Dadrie had also thought of this, and it took forever before a candle was lit at the rightmost window.
I ran to the fire where our torch lay, smeared the top with some oil, and lit it. Then I went back to the edge and raised the torch. The candle was extinguished, and I returned to camp. I mentally wished Dadrie good luck before crawling under my animal skins.
In the days that followed, Numico and I played a lot of Kash, while Cabilah sat singing on a rock at the precipice, caressing Monta and keeping a constant eye on the house. We had both already offered to relieve her, but she wouldn't budge. She kept an eye on the house as long as it was light. After the second day, she already knew what time who was working where, and when they would leave.
She thought about everything and saw everything. It quickly dawned on me that she was doing this so I could reach Dadrie in an emergency. To free him unseen, or at least to know the logistics of the site to be able to get to the house unseen. I doubted that would be possible in such a situation, but stopping Cabilah would be quite a task.
It was on the morning of the third day that Cabilah called us. We left our game for what it was and stood on the edge. "Look there. That must be Kreytu, I recognize the way he moves. He inspects the fields every day. Together with Dadrie for the past few days, but now he is alone. Based on the saddlebags he is carrying, I think he is traveling further away than usual.”
We also saw a man enter the stables with saddlebags over his shoulder, only to emerge a little later on a black horse and leave at high speed towards the north. This could mean anything, but despite Cabilah's protests that she now wanted to go check on Dadrie, we decided to wait for the candle. The day, but especially the evening hours, passed by until finally, the candle was lit; there were two.
Cabilah had insisted that if she waited, she could be the one to take stock. At worst, she could claim that she was the ex-girlfriend with regrets. That she had followed Dadrie and finally found him.
The three of us sat tensely on the edge; Numico stroked Monta, trying to make out something of the descending Cabilah. My eyes were focused on the illuminated windows of the mansion, where she would soon appear. There were still servants in the mansion, which meant Cabilah had to contact Dadrie through the right window.
With clenched fists and curled toes, I stared at the house; I thought I saw something moving on the road past one of the barns. Numico had also seen it and nudged me while pointing in that direction. I would have preferred to go myself, but an appointment was an agreement.
Now that I saw how Cabilah crept around the house, approaching the windows like a cat and spying through the rooms from both sides, I was glad that she had taken this upon herself. She paused longer at one of the large windows at the front; then I saw her hand run along the window. Not much later, someone appeared at the window, and Cabilah disappeared to the back.
It took so long that I started to worry, but then in one of the unlit rooms on the top floor, if I count correctly Dadrie's room, a candle appeared in the window. A little later, I thought I saw a person sneaking away from the stables in the darkness.
Panting, she came to sit with us; we were now sitting around the campfire, and it was considerably colder than the previous nights. Numico handed the still-panting woman some water. After a few sips, her breathing calmed down.
“So far everything is going great. He had been warmly received. Kreytu had heard some rumors and was afraid that he would no longer be able to greet his friend in person. So you can imagine he was pleasantly surprised when Dadrie stood there in front of him. He swallowed the story at face value and offered my brother to stay as long as he thought necessary. Dadrie gratefully accepted the offer and offered to help on the land. That's what Kreytu had hoped for, he still has too few farmers and too much land, so the extra hands were welcome."
