Hello Hivers! I'm happy to say hello again from this space of creativity and perseverance that is Hive. Today I come to talk to you about a series that I found by chance thanks to a Netflix recommendation. I remember thinking why I had not read anything until that moment about that drama that had a good chance of making me fall in love.
Politics is a difficult terrain much more with the bad experiences we have had in Latin America in that area, that is why when this series came out I was a little intrigued by the content of it. Much more interest that caused the fact of having the production of Ryan Murphy who has become a benchmark in the entertainment world, along with him sounded another name known in the cast: Gwyneth Paltrow one of the most frivolous and hated celebrities in the industry.
All these elements and many more come together to form an incredible piece of endless entertainment, which caught me by its agility, nostalgia and opulence. But I won't tell you more, let's learn more about this series.

Hola Hivers! Estoy feliz de volver a saludar desde este espacio de creatividad y perseverancia que es Hive. Hoy les vengo a hablar de una serie que encontré por casualidad gracias a la recomendación de Netflix. Recuerdo haber pensado el motivo por el cual no había leído nada hasta ese momento de aquel dramón que tenía muchas probabilidades de enamorarme.
La política es un terreno difícil mucho más con las malas experiencias que hemos tenido en Latinoamérica en ese ámbito, es por eso que cuando salió esta serie me intrigaba un poco el contenido de la misma. Mucho más interés que causó el hecho de contar con la producción de Ryan Murphy que se ha convertido en un referente en el mundo del espectáculo, junto a él sonaba otro nombre conocido en el cast: Gwyneth Paltrow una de las celebridades más frívolas y odiadas de la industria.
Todos estos elementos y muchos más se unen para formar una pieza increíble de entretenimiento sin fin, que me atrapó por su agilidad, nostalgia y opulencia. Pero no les adelanto más, vamos a conocer más acerca de esta serie.

The Politician is an American series released in 2019, created and produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan for Netflix in company of the companies Touchstone Television, Fox 21 Television Studios and Ryan Murphy Productions. It has 2 seasons of 8 and 7 episodes respectively, with an approximate duration of between 26 minutes and 1 hour per episode. It stars Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, Laura Dreyfuss, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones and Benjamin Barrett.

The first season tells the story of Payton Hobart (Ben Plattt) a brilliant, ambitious and wealthy student who along with his friends McAfee Westbrook (Laura Dreyfuss), James Sullivan (Theo Germaine) and Alice Charles (Julia Schlaepfer) will do everything in their power to get Payton appointed as president of the Student Council of his exclusive high school using as vice president Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch) a classmate who suffers from a fake cancer inflicted by her grandmother Dusty Jackson (Jessica Lange) who suffers from Munchausen's syndrome.
Thus Payton will achieve the beginning of his dream: to become the president of the United States. Payton lives together with his parents Keaton (Bob Balaban) and Georgina Hobart (Gwyneth Paltrow) an overprotective mother who does not hesitate to support unconditionally the dreams of her adopted son, even if it means giving up her lesbian platonic love and enduring a marriage that does not make her happy.
But Payton and her friends won't have it easy as her childhood friend and lover River Barkley (David Corenswet) also runs for student council president causing Payton to explode with anger. River can't take the pressure of the campaign and ends up committing suicide leaving the way clear for Payton, but River's girlfriend Astrid Sloan (Lucy Boynton) decides to run in his place by choosing a gender fluid black girl named Skye Leighton (Rahne Jones) as her vise-president. Amidst messes and anxieties the first season ends.
The second season depicts Payton's life as a college student in New York City, his old running mates manage to convince him to fight veteran congresswoman Dede Standish (Judith Light) for a senate seat. Dede is in a polyamorous relationship and counts Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler) as his running mate. Will Payton make his dreams come true?

La primera temporada cuenta la historia de Payton Hobart (Ben Plattt) un brillante, ambicioso y adinerado estudiante que junto a sus amigos McAfee Westbrook (Laura Dreyfuss), James Sullivan (Theo Germaine) y Alice Charles (Julia Schlaepfer) harán todo lo que esté en sus manos para que Payton logre ser nombrado como presidente del Consejo Estudiantil de su exclusivo instituto usando como visepresidenta a Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch) una compañera de clases que sufre de un cáncer fingido infringido por su abuela Dusty Jackson (Jessica Lange) quién sufre del síndrome de Munchausen.
Así Payton logrará el comienzo de su sueño: Llegar a ser el presidente de Estados Unidos. Payton vive juntos sus padres Keaton (Bob Balaban) y Georgina Hobart (Gwyneth Paltrow) una madre sobreprotectora que no duda en apoyar de manera incondicional los sueños de su hijo adoptado, aunque eso conlleve renunciar a su amor platónico lésbico y aguantar un matrimonio que no la hace feliz.
Pero Payton y sus amigos no la tendrán fácil ya que su amigo de la infancia y amante River Barkley (David Corenswet) también se postula como presidente del consejo estudiantil haciendo que Payton estalle de ira. River no aguanta la presión de la campaña y termina suicidándose dejando el camino libre a Payton, pero la novia de River, Astrid Sloan (Lucy Boynton) decide lanzarse en su lugar eligiendo a una chica negra de género fluido llamada Skye Leighton (Rahne Jones) como su visepresidenta. Entre líos y ansiedades termina la primera temporada.
La segunda temporada describe la vida de Payton como estudiante universitario de la ciudad de Nueva York, sus viejos compañeros de fórmula logran a convencerlo de que luche contra la veterana congresista Dede Standish (Judith Light) por un puesto en el senado. Dede tiene una relación poliamorosa y cuenta con Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler) como su compañera de campaña. ¿Lograra Payton hacer sus sueños realidad?
𝕸𝖞 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎𝖔𝖓
The Politician seems like a soap opera after all, it wouldn't be a Ryan Murphy series without a lot of plot twists and jumps to make sense of the story. The photography of the seasons was wonderful it's an opulent series, just as in other Murphy series, this one also enhances reality through imagery. Payton's world is painted with beautiful details in colors like bright turquoise, fuchsia, amber and coral and the sun shines brighter than ever in the filming locations. The wardrobe I must say is impeccable everyone is well dressed in The Politician.
CHVRCHES, Elliott Smith, LCD Soundsystem and Sufjan Stevens provided the soundtrack. Speaking of which the intro and opening theme which is Chicago composed by Sufjan Stevens, .is one of the best I've seen on Netflix. I'm used to skipping intros but with this entry I couldn't do the same.
But the series is not only wealth it also tackles other issues such as gun violence, depression, sexual fluidity, gender nonconformity, mid-life crisis, social class, addictions, love as a couple, fidelity and political apathy. The dialogue is incredibly snappy, witty, sharp and captures the spirit of this era, each episode an ode to modernity.
The Politician does feel overdone at times, but the truth is I didn't mind it, the over-the-top role Jessica Lange had in the first season, the plot as Infinity's grandmother is especially captivating in a way I couldn't explain. Another one that shines brightly is Bette Midler she is always flawless, she can sing, she can act and she has a great presence from the moment I knew she was going to be part of the series I was much more interested in watching her. Another iconic moment was seeing Gwyneth Paltrow mowing the lawn in a designer dress, which is incredibly satirical for an actress who represents everything it means to be a snob.
𝕸𝖎 𝕺𝖕𝖎𝖓𝖎ó𝖓
The Politician parece un culebrón al fin y al cabo, no sería una serie de Ryan Murphy sin un montón de giros y saltos argumentales que le den sentido a la historia. La fotografía de las temporadas estuvo maravillosa es una serie opulenta, al igual que en otras series de Murphy, en esta también se potencia la realidad a través de imágenes. El mundo de Payton está pintado con detalles hermosos en colores como el turquesa brillante, fucsia, ámbar y coral y el sol brilla más que nunca en las locaciones de rodaje. El vestuario debo decir es impecable todo el mundo está bien vestido en The Politician.
CHVRCHES, Elliott Smith, LCD Soundsystem y Sufjan Stevens fueron los encargados de la banda sonora. Hablando de eso la intro y el tema de apertura el cual es Chicago compuesto por Sufjan Stevens, .es uno de los mejores que he visto en Netflix. Estoy acostumbrado a omitir las intros pero con esta entrada no pude hacer lo mismo.
Pero la serie no es solamente riqueza también aborda otros temas como la violencia con armas, la depresión, la fluidez sexual, la inconformidad de género, la crisis de los 30, las clase sociales, las adicciones, el amor en pareja, la fidelidad y la apatía política. Los diálogos son increíblemente rápidos, ingeniosos, agudos y captan el espíritu de esta época, cada episodio es una oda a la modernidad.
The Politician sí se siente muy exagerada a veces, pero la verdad es que no me importó, el papel exagerado que tuvo Jessica Lange en la primera temporada, la trama como la abuela de Infinity es especialmente cautivante en un sentido que no podría explicar. Otra que brilla con luz propia es Bette Midler ella siempre esta impecable, sabe cantar, sabe actuar y tiene una gran presencia desde el momento que supe que iba a formar parte de la serie me interesé mucho más en verla. Otro momento icónico fue ver a Gwyneth Paltrow cortando el césped con un vestido de diseñador, lo cual es increíblemente satírico para una actriz que representa todo lo que significa ser una pija.
The best of the series happens when it deals with political issues such as: voter suppression, political strategies, statistics, government inaction or how fake news can make voters change their voting tendencies seemed very realistic to me and to some extent I felt it was inspired by the Trump era. The parallels between Trump era politics and high school politics or running for a senate seat are allegorical and even subtle at times in fact Ryan Murphy and company manage to make that connection to what politics is in actuality. The episode narrated from the point of view of an undecided voter, who is not interested in democracy but who could turn the outcome of the elections in the first season, seemed to me very well done, quite real and analytical.
But the political references don't just stay in the Trump era, they also focus on other politicians and make references to other political moments in the United States. Payton Horbart is the kind of politician faithful to his convictions, honest and committed that we need in Venezuela, but everything is fiction there is no Payton anywhere, hopefully democracy with its flaws remains the kind of society we always choose.
The work of Ben Platt is also impeccable, the first time I had references of this actor was in Rupaul's Drag Race in an episode, Rupaul invites the Drag Queens to give it all on stage just like Ben did on Broadway. In that way I also understood that Ben Platt's voice was also a gift from heaven for us mortals, every song he sings within the plot becomes endearing, his voice transmits a lot, without a doubt a great interpreter...
Lo mejor de la serie sucede cuando trata temas políticos como: la supresión de los votantes, las estrategias políticas, las estadísticas, la inacción del gobierno o cómo las noticias falsas pueden hacer que los votantes cambien su tendencias de votos me pareció muy realista y hasta cierto punto sentí que estaba inspirado en la era Trump. Los paralelismos entre la política de la era Trump y la política de la escuela secundaria o la carrera por un puesto en el senado son alegóricos e incluso sutiles a veces de hecho Ryan Murphy y compañía logran establecer esa conexión con lo que es la política en actualidad. El episodio narrado desde el punto de vista de un votante indeciso, el cual no está interesado en la democracia pero que podría darle la vuelta al resultado de las elecciones en la primera temporada, me pareció muy bien logrado, bastante real y analítico.
Pero las referencias políticas no se quedan solo en era Trump también se centran en otros políticos y hacen referencias a otros momentos políticos de Estados Unidos. Payton Horbart es la clase de político fiel a sus convicciones, honesto y comprometido que necesitamos en Venezuela, pero todo es ficción no existe un Payton en ninguna parte, ojala la democracia con sus fallas siga siendo la clase de sociedad que escojamos siempre.
El trabajo de Ben Platt también es impecable, la primera vez que tuve referencias de este actor fue en Rupaul’s Drag Race en un episodio, Rupaul invita a las Drag Queens a darlo todo en el escenario tal como lo hacía Ben en Broadway. De esa forma también comprendí que esa voz de Ben Platt también era un regalo del cielo para nosotros los mortales, cada canción que canta dentro de la trama se vuelve entrañable, su voz transmite mucho, sin duda un gran interprete.
Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story and who is also Gwyneth Paltrow's husband in real life) and Ian Brennan (Glee, Scream Queens), frequent collaborators of Murphy, have been the co-creators of The Politician that is why you will find similarities in many aspects but do not be fooled this series is much more than it seems. Although the second season is very good it was also slow, there are many unnecessary characters and others are not approached as I would like. You get to know little or nothing about the secondary characters and it's a shame there are very complex characters that are worthwhile.
But it is certainly a series that will age very well, because the issues it deals with are as current as this publication, so if you were wondering if I was going to recommend this series, the answer is yes. It has everything I like a great story, good looking guys, well dressed and empowered girls, but above all it manages to transmit me a lot and I appreciate that, so you should also live the experience and watch The Politicia, no doubt for me is a 9/10.
Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story y quien también es el marido de Gwyneth Paltrow en la vida real) e Ian Brennan (Glee, Scream Queens), colaboradores frecuentes de Murphy, han sido los co-creadores de The Politician es por eso que encontraras parecidos en muchos aspectos pero no te dejes engañar esta serie es mucho más de lo que aparenta. Aunque la segunda temporada es muy buena también se me hizo lenta, existen muchos personajes innecesarios y a otros no se les aborda como me gustaría. Se llega a saber poco o nada a acerca de los personajes secundarios y es una lástima hay personajes muy complejos que valen la pena.
Pero sin duda es una serie que va a envejecer muy bien, porque los temas que trata son tan actuales como esta publicación, así que si te preguntabas si les iba a recomendar esta serie, la respuesta es sí. Tiene todo lo que me gusta una gran historia, chicos guapos, chicas bien vestidas y empoderadas, pero sobretodo logra transmitirme mucho y eso lo agradezco, así que tú también debes vivir la experiencia y ver The Politicia, sin duda para mí es un 9/10.
