Dear Business Owner, Focus on Quality Not Quantity

Dear business owner, I cannot say this enough, the performance and sustainability of a business depends on the quality of either the services, products, or data your business offers.

You need to focus on quality to ensure that your business maintains a good reputation. After all, the success of your business depends on keeping your customers happy, so they have no choice but to return.

Let me tell you a story about what happened a few weeks ago. I am a sucker for Parfait, it’s almost an obsession. Now, around where I live, there are several supermarkets with different brands of Parfait. And, I always like to try different brands. It was all good until I tried a particular brand. Guess what? It was 100% trash. For this article, we’ll call it PARFAIT X.

I avoided parfaits for a while after that one. However, I went to one of the supermarkets again sometime last week to get it, a guy walks up to me stating that he wanted to show me a new parfait brand since they didn’t have the exact one I wanted.

I wasn’t paying so much attention but I let him lead me there anyway. Turns out it was Parfait X, I didn’t even think twice. I just blurted out “Oh, this X is trash, utter trash. Tried it twice and it was bad”. The guy only nodded and smiled.

My friend who watched as the scene unfolded whispered in my ears “Look at his shirt, he works for Parfait X”. I felt really bad because I had condemned the X right to his face without mercy. So, I walked up to him just so I could make amends for what I had said. I even offered to buy another one of the X hoping to make him feel better about what I had done. I got home hoping that this parfait would be better. You guessed right, it was trash!

As it stands, nothing will make me buy the parfait X again because if I’m spending my hard-earned money, I sure as hell deserve to get good value for it. Simply put, Parfait X has lost a customer and will keep losing customers if they do nothing to improve on their product.

In order for your business to survive, you need repeat customers or clients for sustenance. For your business to survive, try to maintain a good reputation by investing your 100% into that business by ensuring that their products are of high quality.

If you are cutting corners because you want to make a profit dubiously, it is only a matter of time before you run your business to the ground. For instance, some business owners find ways to adulterate oils, mix flours, or use low-quality materials for production, because they want more profit, forgetting that a substandard item will never be a match for a quality item.

There’s a big difference between being smart and being dubious. So, you need to make the right choice. If you only have the raw materials for 100 gallons of palm oil, make it one hundred. Do not in any way subscribe to adding all sorts to increase the quantity.

If you run a small or large business, your path to success lies in providing the best quality of services and products. No matter what industry you are in, how you present your company determines how your customers perceive you.

Now ask yourself, which business would you prefer? A business with extremely low-quality products or services that continues to lose patronage or a business with quality products that keep customers coming back to you like it’s a default setting?

If you are of the opinion that when one customer goes, another will come then you need to think again. Word-of-mouth reviews will do your business more harm than good before you even realize it.

Dear business owner, you can do better.
