Today I received something that seems revolutionary in its potential. While I had been informing myself crypto over the years, I never dived deep enough to understand its actual depth of possible implications.
This Morning the good old snail-mail had a package for me; a device who holds the potential to revolutionise how we handle our finances. This device is nothing other than my first cold storage hardware wallet for crypto.
I received my KeepKey Wallet a week after making the order.
It will be an important asset and friend in building up a sovereign life. I will be using crypto as a second bank as a means to slowly extricate myself more and more from the world of centralized financial banking to a life in which I take control of my assets and finances helping to decentralise the vast amounts of power many of these monopolies and corrupt institutions have garnered.
I recently turned 30 and now merely possessing a debit card comes with monthly fees, without which I can not even withdraw my funds into cash unless I go to the bank itself and pay even larger fees for processing by a employee just to access my money in actual physical currency.
Anyways, setting up the KeepKey was a breeze on MacOs, simply download the Device Updater, follow the steps, then simply go to beta.shapeshift.com where you can pair it now and set up your wallet. This creates your seed phrase and finally allows you setup a unique pin for the device which you need to enter to unlock the device whenever you wish to access it.
I must say I have not managed to make it work with Windows though, I got a second key for another member of the household and was only successful at updating the device but not pair it or access it or set it up. So for those thinking of ordering one, if you are running Windows might be a good Idea to choose something else like a Trezor or Ledger. If I find a fix for the Windows Issue I'll write an update.
To use the Wallet to just send and receive funds, you can use the shapeshift platform without login and registration, no Identity information required, just pair and unlock your device and good to go! But if you wish to access their exchange and trading services then you will need to register an I.D Verified account.
All in all, I am learning a lot about cryptos and their potential possibilities, determined to get in while it is still decentralised rather than be forced to get accustomed to it when the centralised alternatives come flooding in trying to win back the power that they risk losing as more and more people lose trust in the traditional systems of finance and government.
