What Is The Effect Of Fear On Our Individual And Collective Psyche?

This seems very pertinent to these times where it seems society is operating on a program of fear with something on the agenda like - keep the people in fear - keep them in control.

I see it when I go to town or on the news but I feel somewhat removed having earlier on decided that I'd not let someone or something determine how I was to run my life. I didn't buy into the whole fearful aspect of the pandemic. I will respect the virus but I will not fear it!

It is sad to see fear taking over even to the point of people losing there sense of humanity. That causes me to look long and hard at what I value and for sure when I can not change things to come up with creative ways to keep living in a way that is meaningful to me. Keeping true to myself!

Where does all this fear stem from?

Is it the fear of death? That the virus might kill you?

Even before the pandemic many people fear death for it is such an unknown.

@julianhorack wrote a beautiful article on knowing how to live well is knowing how to die well. He writes:

What is the real goal of life? It is to prepare for a good death. Now I’m not being world-denying, but rather emphasizing that for anyone to succeed at anything they need to keep the goal in mind. A good death is based on living a good life, so they go hand in hand. It’s all interlinked. There are short term, medium term and long term goals in any expert strategist’s arsenal. The secret is to remember the long term goal and then work backwards, by having the medium term strategy to attain the long term goal and then still closer to home, have your short term goals to attain the medium. But without knowing the long term goal, the rest will likely be wasted time.

That removes that fear and adds more purpose to your life for it comes down to the fact that everything is coming into being and passing away. To realize this and loose your attachments and clinging to things of this world is very freeing and can lead to a more joyous life.
