Cada semana la comunidad Humanitas nos invita a participar en sus iniciativas, en esta semana la reflexión va en torno a la geografía, si, así mismo como lo lees. Seguro puedas pensar, Como la geografía se relaciona con las humanidades, pues creo que se trata de una reflexión muy interesante y práctica. Básicamente se nos pide escoger un lugar del mundo para vivir y lo más importante escoger el porque, y esto sí que resulta un desafío. La globalización ha hecho fácil el acceso a mucha información sobre el mundo más allá de lo que nos rodea, no necesariamente necesitamos viajar para saber como es la vida en otros lugares del mundo. Tengo que hacer un ejercicio de imaginación ya que empíricamente no poseo la experiencia de haber vivido en otro lugar, solo he vivido en mi país.
A veces puede ser algo romántico, y si me preguntan dónde te gustaría vivir, diría que cualquier lugar es perfecto siempre que esté mi esposa, pero, no me puedo quedar con esta respuesta para participar en la iniciativa. Quizá estoy desvariando demasiado, porque mientras voy esbozando estas palabras, en mi mente estoy tratando de pensar en que lugar me gustaría vivir. Pero, esto no es una decisión que se tome al azar, o por mero gusto estético del lugar que se decida, sino que hay un montón de cosas a considerar antes de tomar la decisión. Tiene que ser un lugar agradable, con un clima que me agrade, bonitas vistas, y esto viene a representar el ámbito estético. Por otro lado, políticamente hablando, escogería un lugar que sea lo más pacifico, donde la corrupción no sea la bandera de los gobernantes, eso es algo que acá en mi país me tiene bastante fastidiado.
Tiene que tener condiciones de posibilidad para el crecimiento personal y profesional, además de otorgar las condiciones para una vida tranquila y segura. Y dando todas estas características de mi lugar ideal para vivir, creo que voy adelantando el por que de la pregunta que nos propone la iniciativa. Se que ningún país es perfecto, o que congrega todas las condiciones que he enumerado, quizá suiza puede acercarse un poco, pero es algo que no me termina de convencer. Como les dije hace un momento, siempre he vivido en Venezuela, y eso determina mucho mis criterios de elección.
Y pensándolo bien, aca en los andes de mi país, esa región montañosa en la cual tuve la oportunidad de vivir por un año en una de las ciudades más lindas del territorio andino, y me gusto mucho el clima y sus paisajes, creo que me gustaría vivir en San Cristóbal, capital del estado Táchira. Además que su gente es super amable y espléndida. Pero, a nivel socio económico Venezuela no atraviesa el mejor momento, aunque, al parecer, se cree que es el país latinoamericano con más probabilidad de crecimiento en los próximos años.
Creo que en verdad no viviría en otro lugar que no fuera mi país, pero me encantaría que las condiciones de posibilidad en el ámbito socio económico fueran mucho mejores que las actuales. Además hay un factor que es importante y que hasta ahora no lo había considerado en mi respuesta: lo cultural.
Lo cultural es un factor importante, cuando crecemos una cultura nos arropa, aprendemos a comunicarnos de un modo, a pensar y relacionarnos con los demás de un modo preestablecido por la sociedad. Toda cultura posee costumbres, gastronomía en otras palabras, la cultura esboza un modo de decir el ser como lo diría Heidegger. Me pregunto, hasta que punto estoy dispuesto a vivir otra cultura. Porque vivir en otro lugar implica aprender un nuevo modo de relacionarse con el mundo y con los otros, y bien sabemos que estamos en una constante relación con el mundo exterior, no somos islas.
De modo que, se suma otro factor a considerar: la posibilidad de desear vivir en otro lugar que no sea aquí. Ahora mismo se me viene otro factor a la cabeza, la familia, a menos que vivir en otro lugar implique poder llevar toda la familia, no creo que escogería por gusto vivir lejos de mis seres queridos. Digo por gusto, porque no sabemos qué tantas vueltas depare el destino, ahora mismo escribo que no concebiría mi vida fuera de Venezuela y no se si en un par de años este fuera. Como dice el dicho popular: “Nunca digas de esta agua no beberé”.
Pienso que son demasiadas cosas a considerar, aunque no negaré que hay un deseo interno por viajar y conocer muchos lugares del mundo, porque, sin duda, viajar te hace pensar diferente, te hace concebir las cosas desde otro punto de vista, ya que te nutres de otras perspectivas. Así que por ahora, no elegiría vivir fuera de mi país, no se después. Es una cuestión difícil y que queda totalmente abierta.

I would like to live in...Initiative: Human Culture. Week 14
Every week the Humanitas community invites us to participate in their initiatives, this week the reflection is about geography, yes, just as you read it. Surely you can think, how geography is related to the humanities, because I think it is a very interesting and practical reflection. Basically we are asked to choose a place in the world to live and more importantly to choose why, and this is a challenge. Globalisation has made it easy to access so much information about the world beyond what surrounds us, we don't necessarily need to travel to find out what life is like in other parts of the world. I have to do an exercise of imagination as empirically I do not have the experience of having lived elsewhere, I have only lived in my own country.
Sometimes it can be a bit romantic, and if you ask me where I would like to live, I would say that any place is perfect as long as my wife is there, but, I can't keep this answer to participate in the initiative. Maybe I'm ranting too much, because while I'm sketching these words, in my mind I'm trying to think where I would like to live. But, this is not a decision to be taken at random, or by mere aesthetic taste of the place to be decided, but there are a lot of things to consider before making the decision. It has to be a pleasant place, with a climate that pleases me, nice views, and this comes to represent the aesthetic sphere. On the other hand, politically speaking, I would choose a place that is as peaceful as possible, where corruption is not the banner of the rulers, which is something that I find very annoying here in my country. \
It has to have conditions for personal and professional growth, as well as providing the conditions for a peaceful and safe life. And given all these characteristics of my ideal place to live, I think I'm getting ahead of the question that the initiative proposes. I know that no country is perfect, or has all the conditions that I have listed, maybe Switzerland can come a little bit closer, but it is something that does not convince me. As I told you a moment ago, I have always lived in Venezuela, and that determines my criteria of choice.
And thinking about it, here in the Andes of my country, that mountainous region in which I had the opportunity to live for a year in one of the most beautiful cities of the Andean territory, and I really liked the climate and its landscapes, I think I would like to live in San Cristóbal, capital of the state of Táchira. Besides, its people are super friendly and splendid. But, on a socio-economic level, Venezuela is not going through the best moment, although, apparently, it is believed that it is the Latin American country with the highest probability of growth in the next few years.
I don't think I would really live anywhere else but in my own country, but I would love to see much better conditions in the socio-economic sphere than at present. There is also an important factor that I had not considered in my answer so far: culture.
Culture is an important factor, when we grow up a culture surrounds us, we learn to communicate in a certain way, to think and relate to others in a way that is pre-established by society. Every culture has customs, gastronomy in other words, culture outlines a way of saying being as Heidegger would put it. I ask myself, to what extent am I willing to live another culture? Because living in another place implies learning a new way of relating to the world and to others, and we know that we are in a constant relationship with the outside world, we are not islands.
So, there is another factor to consider: the possibility of wanting to live somewhere other than here. Right now another factor comes to mind, the family, unless living somewhere else means being able to take the whole family, I don't think I would choose to live far away from my loved ones for the sake of it. I say for pleasure, because we don't know how many twists and turns destiny has in store, right now I am writing that I could not conceive of my life outside of Venezuela and I don't know if in a couple of years I will be outside of it. As the popular saying goes: "Never say I won't drink of this water".
I think there are too many things to consider, although I won't deny that there is an internal desire to travel and see many places in the world, because, without a doubt, travelling makes you think differently, it makes you conceive things from another point of view, because you are nourished by other perspectives. So for now, I wouldn't choose to live outside my country, I don't know later. It's a difficult question and one that remains wide open.
