Midnight Gems 2.0 - The written Radio Show - Episode 22 "To Boldly Go Beyond"

Midnight gems session 2.png

For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.

Tonight I'm gonna send you to outer space, To find another race. And I'll take your brain to another dimension.

Tonight's episode is probably subconsciously inspired by me binging two seasons of Star Trek Picard.

Now it is hard to believe you never heard about Mika, the guy wrote some crazy happy tunes and presented the Eurovision in 2022. But that is not what it“s about tonight. Tonight it is all about taking off, and leaving nothing but a bit of Stardust.

Mika - Stardust

So let's get your rocks off like a true rocket man, or girl and yes I know Kate Bush has done it. But even though I loved that version growing up I think Grace did a better job, can you say that because it is Kate...... and miss Bush is a legend.

Grace Gaustad - Rocket Man

Alright, dear rocket reader, we have taken off and no I am not gonna play a cover of the next one. Ground control to Mr. Bowie you really left the earth and I miss you, like Lazarus misses getting up from being dead.

David Bowie - Space Oddity

Now before we call Houston with a Problem, I really love these guys and this cover. One of my favorite bands in the world, just that voice and those synths, just dig it!

Apoptygma Berzerk - Major Tom

Sou, Sout, South Africa and don't you love that Afrikaans, these guys definitely have bigger singles and I may be old fashion and dirty, but Die Antwoord is still one of my heroes. And they look, feel, and sound so South Alien😁

Die Antwoord - Alien

But tonight's setting all got started by this weird one, did they steal Bowies style? This one hit wonder, that appeared out of nowhere? I thought they were German btw, but they are from the UK and they send us into space men!

Babylon Zoo - Spaceman

And if I say space you say?

What you say?

Area 52!

Kevu - Area 51

But we all know that this trip was inspired by one song, by one transcending tune. A tune that kicked my butt in 1992, life would never be the same after this. The song samples the 1976 song "Chase the Devil" by Max Romeo as well as some lines by rapper Kool Keith on the 1988 track "Critical Beatdown" by Ultramagnetic MCs.

Prodigy - Outta Space

So that was all building up to the biggest space song ever, or maybe, well, to be honest, just in case you are like me....

You must have missed this one!

SOAD - Aerials

Riddle Me This

Guess What, Nobody Guessed My Riddle Yet!
And I thought it was an easy one??? I told you to put your viewing glasses on but nobody is looking just beyond the obvious.

So the connection hint is mentioned, but it seems you donĀ“t get it. Yes, these have been all featured in my shows, but that is not it. I did mention something specific about these three songs, something that most songs I post donĀ“t have. or maybe do havešŸ¤“

Well just drop the answer in the comments of this week“s Tune Tune Train and get that One Dollar Ecency Boost on your next post.

What the fluff are midnight gems?

Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that“s the place where midnight gems are found.

My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.

Who the fluff am I?

Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it“s time to finally take it to the streets.

Hope you enjoyed this well-known wave of fantastic music and that you still feel like joining me on the next Midnight Gems Session coming soon.
