Answer for Day 25 Math Problem

7.81 meters 🎯

Solution

We have two logical right triangles which are to be represented by four vertices.

Let H = the position of the hoop itself
Let G = the intersection of the pole of the hoop and the ground
Let F = the position of Fang
Let M = the position of Manga

Based on the given, we have a triangle FGH, where M is the midpoint of F and G.

The Pythagorean Theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse length is equal to the sum of squares of the lengths of the legs.

c² = a² + b²

where
c = hypotenuse length (longest side of a right triangle)
a, b = the lengths of the two legs

Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we get the distance of Fang from the base of the pole of the hoop which is 13 meters. (5, 12, and 13 is a Pythagorean Triple). c² = 5² + 12² = 25 + 144 = 169, then getting the square root of 169 which is 13. Therefore, the since Manga is at the midpoint of the base of the pole of the hoop and Fang, Manga is 6 meters away from both.

We now have another triangle FGM, where line segments FG and GM are 5 and 6 meters, respectively. Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we get √63 or approximately 7.81 meters. c² = 5² + 6² = 25 + 36 = 61, then getting the square root of 61.

Manga is approximately 7.81 meters away from the basketball hoop itself.
