The the diagonal (or in more general terms, the diameter) of an n-dimensional thing with equal side length s is equal to

sqrt(n * s^2)

The diagonal of the tesseract can be obtained through the following:
= sqrt(4 * 4^2)
= sqrt(64)
= 8
