One thing I learned today, is that you can meet some amazing people as a volunteer.
Served lunch at the homeless center and met a guy trying to get his life back in order. He'd dealt with substance abuse and many other things which kept him down. However, listening to him, I realized events had not defeated him.
He was shining like a little star.
The sheer determination that poured out with every word was inspiring to say the least. If I was able to help even a little, it really made my day. The current need was for employment and I directed him to a place needing workers.
I wasn't even going to go in that day, but something compelled me to. He was really desperate to find a job, and I'm so glad I decided to go. Maybe I was drawn by the light of another...
