Summer Roost

Every fall and winter, thousands of American Crows come from all over the region to the nightly roost in downtown Portland, Oregon. During the spring and summer, the mated crows and their young stay the night in their territories while they tend to their nests and raise their babies. Once the babies are strong enough to make the flight downtown, however, the families return to the roost every night.

As the weeks wear on, many of the surviving young crows are now able to make it to the evening roost. While the number of crows coming in right now are not nearly as spectacular as fall and winter roosts, watching them come in at sunset is still a sight to behold.

I used a high ISO to be able to get enough light and still have a fast shutter. When processing the photos, I reduced noise and texture so that the images wouldn't come out grainy.
I'm really happy with the results.

Everything looks very soft and vibrant, and like the colors are bleeding together. It reminds me of looking at an image through a very thin sheet of vellum paper.

The industrial silhouette of the Steel Bridge made for a very nice touch. Nice of the city to put that there for my photo shoot.
