Student Life: Why I Can't Buy a Laptop

A laptop is an essential tool for every student who goes to the University. There are several benefits of using a laptop during your school days, there is software that you cannot use with your phone and are only compatible with laptops.

It is why I am trying my best to purchase a laptop while pursuing my college degree. I am now in my 2nd year at the University and taking a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. This course has an AutoCAD subject where we mostly use a laptop, there are also subjects where we will be needing it, especially in higher years.

I have been planning to purchase a laptop since last month. It is also my biggest goal for this year but it won’t happen for some reason. You see, I plan to buy a high-end laptop not for being cool or something, but because my objective is to have a laptop that I can use for the long term. We went to the store twice, the price ranged from 56,000 pesos to 57,000 pesos.

It is actually a gaming laptop, but I am not fond of gaming, I am just targeting those kinds of laptops because of their specifications. I don’t want to buy a laptop that will start to lag and have a slow processor after using it for months. Besides, AutoCAD software requires a good laptop specification because some features on the program won’t function if it is not compatible.

Storytime…

My money is not enough to buy a laptop at this expensive price, hence, I plan to pay it monthly, in installment mode of payment. The condition here is to give a downpayment based on a specific percentage of the original price. Fortunately, my money can cover the down payment. Also, I have an investment outside of crypto where I can use the income to pay for the monthly payment. All is set, we just need to process the loan.

We went to the store last week, there are a lot of things happened, but to make it short, I found the laptop that I want, when we are going to process the documents, my father forgot his ID! So the store didn’t let us close the deal. We said that we will go back next week.

Fast forward, yesterday, we went to the same store and tried to talk about the offer. But fate doesn’t want me to have a laptop. My father presented an SSS ID, Philhealth ID, PAG-IBIG, etc but the store said they are not accepting these IDs because it is just primary ID. They only accept TIN, Postal, and National ID which my father doesn’t have for some unknown reason.

Trying my luck, I asked if I can use my printed national ID that I got the same day, but they said they are also not accepting it even the news said that a printed national ID is considered as a government ID and can be accepted as a requirement.

We tried on other stores but we had the same dilemma. So I gave up. It is kind of sad because I planned it for more than 1 month by estimating my expenses, the down payment, and miscellaneous expenses. I even sold all of my crypto assets while at a loss just to meet the down payment but end up with nothing.

I wasted my time, money, and effort on it. I also had plans if I have a laptop like creating new content on Hive (where the laptop is more efficient to use), freelancing to maximize my earnings, and having more productivity with my academic and work stuff.

My parents can’t provide the money that I need so I have to work hard by myself, I am not asking either, because I want to have a property that I can call as owned and purchased from my hard work. We have a laptop at home, but my brother is always using it because his course is related to computers and programming. It also has low specs so having programming software and AutoCAD at the same time is kinda laggy.

Hence, I decided to split my money into two; crypto investment and investment outside of crypto. Some of it was supposed to be a trading fund but by evaluating the situation, I can gain more profit outside of crypto instead of trading since I am not that skillful when it comes to trading. I might put the profit into crypto to make it work. Of course, there’s a portion of it that will go into Hive by powering up!

I still want to buy a laptop, so I have to work harder and smarter. Hopefully next year.
