Hive Onboarding - does our content really attracts new users?

I am just writing this without too mch thinking about good formatting, grammar, language (hey I am German, no native speaker anyway) - and by saying this - exactly that might also be an issue to attract people from outside Hive to jump on our chain (this is purely related on the social media part of Hive though!).

Why do I write this now?

Well I jumped on the great @redditposh initiative driven by @acidyo @x-rain - fun to post links to Hive content there and create a lot of views on our chain! This is the good part - but do we convert people, do we get new users, and ikf so we retain them?

Side Note - I prefer to get masses in for Hive to invest not necessarily become a content creator though

But that is a different topic.

New users attracted via Reddit expect good content

This is what I leared from the last 5-6 week on Reddit - some ban/delete posts simply as they get a "headache" of:

  • shit grammar
  • shit language
  • useless AI driven content
  • useless (re-used) content
  • wrong or bad researched content

This is only a small selection - hence all the guys that try to post on Reddit should really be aware to select top content, well written - most is in English hence not all of us run through all pieces language and grammar wise or cabable - of course their subreddit also have their own rules and hate blog posts which are immediatley banned (fair enough).

  • Qualification matters
  • Not every cool headline makes sense
  • Choose the right subreddit and read the rules they have - they are even more happy in downvoting as some people here on Hive haha
  • Be carefully if the above points are good to get into discussions
  • Some subreddit are totally shilling certain things like BTC, some are the exact opposite

My main learnings after being engaged and active on Reddit - We talk tooooo much about our chain

This is what I never realized that clear before - probably 90% of any content posted here can hardly be used for other platform, no matter if web2 or web3 - we love to:

  • Talk about ourselves
  • Write why Hive is the best blockchain or whatever
  • Re-use too much content from trusted sources without careful resarch and adding less value
  • Shitpost irrelevant content
  • Reddit - I have to confess - have higher quality engagement

While I am also guilty of posting useless (or irrelavant) stuff on Hive - this should just be a discussion point. All of us love to write about their personal life, show their photos, their music, their initiative - this is all ok for Hive, sometimes even relevant and educating for other. But most stuff is talking within circles about irrelevant topics.

I am not saying that I want #Hive to be the best social media platform with in-depth thinking at every post. But I do think having seen Reddit now for a while with more focus - what we create as considered good content here is not really always relevant for other people that have no clue about our chain, our approach - no matter how great the chain technology is. We should all try to focus on better content (including myself - so i should stop writing content or I should focus on content that could also be relevant for people outside the Hive blockchain).

If you have nothing major to say why bother others to read - if within niche communities all fine such as contests and stuff - if we want to use content to make Hive bigger or more known we need to select the best pieces - a thing I am struggling with at the moment. Means I personally also failed here.

I compare Hive now to web2 stuff such as Facebook as an example

On Facebook everyone can write, comment, contribute - most there is stupid and people fight again other people in the comment section - most try to drive political agendas and postion themselves as the good one (Totally Black and White) - I hate that. On Hive we are way better in that case.

But even on Facebook people talk / discuss content - they hardly write about:

Hey Facebook is the best social media tool - I love it here

Looking forward to your thoughts guys!

Especially asking the guys I know trying to drive people from Reddit to Hive

PS: I know i have several typos and grammer mistakes here as I just wanted to write this down - But I appreciate (as everyone should) to get feedback what was wrong and what all can do better - thanks for reading!
