Hello, steemians, and welcome to da greenhouse, eh!
Today was a busy day for me, with an appointment and then some running of errands. When I finally got back to the house, I went out to the greenhouse to check on the couple of plants that are starting to sprout, and to see how warm it was in the greenhouse. I think the catnip is continuing to sprout but it's hard to tell, it's growing really slow if it's growing at all. The other mint doesn't seem to be doing anything, but that doesn't really surprise me. The hanging strawberry pot also doesn't seem to be doing anything, I wasn't really expecting much from it, but I still have a bit of hope for it. The strawberry runners that I planted in the vertical planter are a mixed bag. 2 of them have put out a new leaf, and the other 2 look like they haven't died yet.
Also, there's the unintended growth in the floor of the greenhouse. Apparently the greenhouse floor has warmed up enough to allow things to start growing. This isn't really what I had in mind when I put the pavers down on the floor.
Since I was already in the greenhouse, I got involved with with digging in the big planting pots again. I started by unstacking the pots that I had brought into the greenhouse last fall so I could get to the big pots. I dumped the dirt from the green pots into the wheelbarrow and then set them aside. They had potting soil from last year and the dirt wasn't all packed down in the pots, so I saved it to reuse. I dumped the dirt out of the white bucket to save that dirt also. The big white pot has my experiment to see if the seeds from last year's marigold seed pods will sprout. I moved that pot up on top of the heat wall to get it out of the way. Then I took my little shovel and shoveled most of the dirt out of the burgandy pot into one of the other pots and put the burgundy pot outside.
Once all the stacked pots were moved out of the way, I was ready to start working on the greenhouse pots.
I started digging in the pots to see which ones had relatively loose dirt and which ones had compacted dirt. Apparently, I must have used garden dirt mixed with perlite for the last 3 pots when I filled them last year. I know I didn't want to spend the money last year to buy potting soil for all the pots in the greenhouse, so I mixed garden dirt for them. These 3 pots were pretty well compacted, so I'll have to dump them out in the garden and get some potting soil for them. I have a little bit of dirt in the bottom of the self watering bucket, I'll need to fill that with good potting soil also.
I got out my big mixing pan to use to hold the dirt that I had shoveled out of the burgundy pot into the empty pot that I now had to get the crappy dirt out of. I didn't want to put that dirt in with the dirt I was saving.
Once I had the pot emptied, I was able to move the dirt from the wheelbarrow into the pot to refill it.
So, I now have 5 of the 8 greenhouse pots filled and ready to use. I'll have to get a few big bags of potting soil to finish the job with the last 3 pots. I also have to decide if I actually want to put water and fish into the tank in the corner. I'm starting to think that I don't really want to bother with that this year. I think I would rather put my efforts into other garden projects this year.
Well, that's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting.
Thanks for checking out my post, eh!
