Three and a Half Weeks Left 'till Full-time Homesteading!
Money obviously is an issue, as most people know. But when it comes to living an alternate lifestyle, mostly off-grid and searching for self reliance, we make sacrifices or eliminate what some people may believe are necessities. I am switching my full time job to a very part time one (I will be there for 2 months every 6 months) to have the time to build our new homestead.
Less money, but a hell of a lot more TIME!
We have plenty of Capital to build with! You can see what I mean here: Prepping to Build a Homestead: 8 Forms of Capital.
We had been shopping for a bigger place to call home than our 1984 Toyota Dolphin...
And this Saturday we had a bigger place delivered right where we had cleared a spot (and found a treasure)!!!! Along with that I picked up a 10 x 12 metal shed to store our furniture, so we built a platform for it out of Palettes (that's a pretty col post to check out).
The beast of a new home cost us very little because we decided to take advantage of my good credit (I can't stand owing money to any sort of bank, but this was the wiser thing to do). We need the little bit of hard cash we have left to last us 4 and a half months and wisely choose where it need to be spent... Water, food, solar system, building materials (when we need more than what the land offers as material capital), a farm vehicle.
All three of us are very excited, we spent the weekend in the new caravan and it was fabulous! It's almost as big as the apartment we've been living in, in Brooklyn. There is more storage than in the apartment, that's for sure and we have a 20 acre back yard!
I still can't believe we have such a thing but we do and it will make our life so much easier than the Dolphin, though we aren't saying goodbye... Not now, not Never! She will provide different forms of capital for us. Once we give her a good cleaning and perhaps a bit of a face-lift, she will be beautiful cottage for an artist retreat, or a temporary home for a writer wanting some peace and quiet. With services like Airbnb and through word of mouth, a pretty little vintage cabin on wheels, in the Catskills region should make us a handful or two of useful coins!
And we will still take her out to festivals... Even though we want to settle down, live off the land and create a life outside of the Concrete Jungle, we are after all still festival people!
Would anyone want a walk through of the place, in the near future?

In the End, it Always works out
