Introduction
My name is Mr. Blinddraw. I am a serial artist based in NYC & LA. Many people ask where my style and name "Mr. Blinddraw" come from. When I first started painting, I would keep my eyes closed, open to wherever my brush would lead me. Though I paint with my eyes open today, my closed eyes remain an inspiration in my creative process, allowing rather than resisting “mistakes.” I paint portraits of people (mainly from Instagram) from all walks of life using water color, acrylic, and pen on archival paper. I thought this content could be interesting in this day and age where hand painting captures surprised Instagram users.
My Work
Portraits
I receive requests to paint people, though there is also a thrill in taking people by surprise and painting those who least expect it. I select my subjects based on what catches my interest, including color, perspective, wardrobe, hairstyle, pose, facial expression, and more.
Abstracts
Periodically, I will be posting abstracts by pulling out detailed information and leaving simplicity on the canvas.
Imperfections vs. Perfections
I will tell more in a future post, but I feel that sometimes the value people place on each other comes from an idealistic vision of what they think is perfect. Art allows us to access beauty through “imperfections” in numerous ways. It is important to embrace the unique things that manifest in a process and feature them in the art.
