We visited Himeji Castle (姫路城) on a nice cloudy day. The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located just minutes from the Himeji JR station, which is very accessible from Osaka and Hiroshima, running on the Sanyo Shinkansen.
Himeji Castle has a white appearance and looks grand and elegant.
From Himeji station, we rented a bicycle from the self service kiosk, for 100 yen a day. The ride was easy and cooling. We rode around the castle park while admiring the castle from the outside.
We also rode and strolled around the nearby Kokoen park. The entrance to the castle costs 1000 yen. We didn't enter, due to a lack of time (probably just an excuse. LOL)
Between Himeji JR station and Himeji castle, there is a long stretch of shopping street. Here you can find nice little shopes and cafe. Take a break and indulge in some nice coffee.
After a long ride, we became tired and started to just walk and push the bike. LOL
Himeji Castle is highly recommended, it is definitely one of the Top 3 castles in Japan. Do visit it if you can.
