‘Art Of Knowing Yourself’ is a new tag started by the amazing (fellow Serbian) @tamacvet and you can check out her original post HERE.
I was nominated by Tamara to write my own version of #knowyourself and answer the questions. First of all, I have to say that I agree on pretty much everything Tamara said in her post and I want to thank her for the nomination.
So let’s start:
Question 1: Why do you think it’s important?
I do agree with Tamara that it really IS important. I believe that everything in life is a constant change and that, as human beings, we are meant to change, grow, learn and try to improve throughout our entire life. As the life changes, as we learn, discover and explore, as we go through different life situations and experiences (good and bad), as we meet and interact with other people, we get to build and know ourselves.
I also believe that there are some things we can practice and consciously try to improve and on the other side, there are some things that are in the core of our existence and that most likely won’t change (that much).
There is one quote/prayer that I really like:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can
and wisdom to know the difference.
Last few years I’ve been focused on self growth and self awareness which was so beneficial in terms of understanding and listening to myself and my inner voice. Naturally, I cared less what other people think and I was minding my own business.
So I guess I could say that, to me, knowing yourself means accepting the way you are, staying open-minded, always have that desire to learn and explore, know your worth and values, strengths and weaknesses, take lessons from the past experiences and people you’ve met, believe in your dreams, listen to your intuition and inner voice.
Question 2: What do you know about yourself by now?
I feel like so many things come to my mind when I think about this so I’m going to write them in bullet points randomly:
Speaking of random, I would say I am quite random, haha. One of my friends here on Steemit also agrees (@hazem91 where you at?). Different things, songs, situations, places remind me of something or someone from the past so I could have a conversations with you and something you say, do or even a simple gesture could remind me of something totally not related to you or our conversation.
I feel like I get more emotional as I get older, which is something I’m still trying to get used to.
This one I never knew how to say without sounding weird but I was always attracted to a certain dose of darkness and mystery. I’ve always loved to watch CSI and I was impressed by the forensics work. I also love watching ID Xtra and Sherlock who is one of my favorite characters. I enjoy reading thriller books. I guess it’s the different human minds that cause this interest: detectives, forensics, doctors (mostly surgeons), murderers, criminals…
I have a strong intuition – this goes for people mostly but sometimes for different situations as well. A few times in my life I tried to ignore it but it was always there and it was always right.
I remember first days of high-school when we were getting to know each other. A girl came and introduced herself and the moment she said her name and shook my hand, I had this instant bad feeling about her. I told myself that I should give her a chance because I haven’t even known her but it turned out that she was one of those manipulative people that I really don’t like and try to stay away from.I remember – good and bad words or actions that most people forget (especially guys, from my personal experience), I tend to remember for a very long time. So if you say something nice or give me a compliment or you offend me, it will most likely get stuck in my brain.
I can be a real b*tch sometimes – I guess it’s just my zodiac sign that makes this part of my personality, haha (Scorpio). Not that long ago, I’ve been told by a friend who I met recently that I am good, too good for my own good and I try to be nice and treat everyone with respect, I do believe I have a good and loving heart BUT if you’re bad/mean/arrogant to me or people I care about, I will most likely use what I like to call "mean sarcasm" and in those moments I can really come up with some offensive words. The good thing is that it really has to be something that annoys me to that point I would loose my temper.
I consider myself loyal – as a partner and as I friend.
I don’t believe in mistakes – I rather believe in lessons.
Some of the most incredible and the best moments/experiences of my life happened when I stepped out of my comfort zone. As an introvert and someone who has a social anxiety, I feel like I missed a lot of chances but I’ve been working on it last few years.
