Adventures in Pet Sitting - Ginger's Dream Come True

I've mentioned Ginger in past posts.

She's a sweetie and I get to hang out with her three time a week. Weather permitting, we just go for a nice walk around her neighborhood. Sidewalks are rare, so we do our best with what's available between the road and turf.

The bigger issue is when the weather is NOT permitting. It's a whole ritual of getting us dressed correctly for the conditions to get us out the door and, then, a dry off, usually, when we get back. (This seriously cuts into treats and belly rubs time. Not a good trade.) You see, Ginger doesn't have a real yard. Her backyard looks similar to these. She's lucky to have twice that much grass between deck and pond. That why I have to go with her. No fence or tie out.

That was her world - up until a few weeks ago. Ginger has a new house now. Instead of steep townhouse steps, she has a split level's short run of stairs and that are carpeted. She's getting used to her new digs and we're having fun exploring all the new options we have to choose from.

The best thing though, is THIS:

That's a fenced yard with squirrel friendly trees. So on the days the weather is yucky, we can just zip out the back door til she gets done with her business and then scamper back inside in a jiffy.

Oh, and not only are there sidewalks on both sides of every block, you'll notice Ginger has her own paved portions - good for rainy, cold days to avoid squishy grass until absolutely the last minute.

The squirrel friendly trees are a bonus. Ginger loves chasing squirrels. Up until now, she had a person as an anchor when she started a chase. Now, the yard is hers and I pity the squirrel that tests her reflexes.
