Adventures In Pet Sitting - Senior Citizen

Meet Kaiser!

He turned 16 this past winter. His hearing is mostly gone and his vision is not far behind. I have to take extra care waking him from naps to avoid scaring him. Generally, a piece of chicken jerky near his nose does the trick. His nose works just fine!

There he is! Well, sort of. Still pretty sleepy, but awake enough to snarf up the treat.

And, we made it outside. Yay!

Finally awake and deciding which way to go. He can be wobbly when he first wakes up, so I let him choose which way to go - within reason, of course.

Always dignified, too.

Kaiser has been a client for about 4 years now. When I first starting walking him, we'd do a three block circuit. Half the time, he made me sprint to keep up. Lil' stinker. As time has progressed, the walks have gotten shorter as his stamina isn't what it used to be. Now, we mostly stay on his side of his block. He still gallops once in while - on a good day.

I'll sprint, happily, just to see him frisky and enjoying himself!
