I had some feedback from my last post about Zorg and Bots and I thought long and hard about what I am going to write about next. I made myself a goal to write one post per day. But since I was working like a horse all weekend in garden lifting heavy stones, I had neither inspiration nor energy to write anything. Today, at work, was contemplating many topics, fishing and humor being on the top of the list. But none of them felt right, you know? What I really want to talk about today, is partly from a book called: Trading in the zone by Mark Douglas. It's a book I could recommend, not only for traders, but also for people who want to know more about themselves.
So, the basic Idea was that there is Ideas and Ideas have life of their own. For example me posting every day, that's an Ideas and the more I focus on it, the more power it gets. Also it can be Positively or Negatively charged ideas. Let's say I post an article a day for 100 days and get 0 comments or upvotes. That would make the idea Negatively charged. Every time I would start to write an article, I would have negative emotions associated with it.
Most important thing I discovered was: that ideas Can Not Be Changed. Mark Douglas brings this out that ideas can't be changed and ones with power will want to express themselves. They will resist at any cost, all attempts of being altered. There's many examples of people going through torture and all kinds of things all the way to death. Idea would rather see you dead, then change. And the most powerful ideas you have will want to get your attention all the time. They will almost harass you, or will do anything to get your attention. So, What do we do about it, if Ideas can Not be changed? Well, they can't be changed, but, they can be Drained from Energy and thus become inactive. And that is very true. Think about how many ideas you had during your life and if you honestly look at yourself, you will find that those ideas are still there in your mind, just they are inactive. So, there lies the KEY to dealing with ideas you do not want to have, or want to have but they are Negatively charged. There can exist simultaneously both Negative and Positive idea of a certain thing. The only difference is: which one will have more power and be dominant?
I can give an Example: Watching internet videos. That is a positively energized idea. That wants to get your attention :) and thus you spend countless hours watching cats running into glass and fat people losing balance on the boat :)
There is Excellent metaphor for this topic that I knew for many years and could not connect the dots till recently:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
I was struggling with this for long time, trying to change someone's Ideas and of cause it can't be done. You have to create new Ideas, drain the ones you don't want and find balance in life. I am never afraid to admit I was wrong in something. It's the best way to learn and move forward, by denying you are only fooling yourself.
I think I rambled on enough, Hope you get something out of this post, check out the book if you like and if you did, let me know what you think about it in the comments.
