Are Pomegranates The New Antidote For Ageing?

How To Halt Aging?

Here is usually my go-to solution; "Hold that minute-hand in steady".

So you will need to look for that giant country clock! Then after locating it, you will need to access it. Locate its minute-hand, catch it and hold it still! It will try to move against you but don't give way to pity. "Hold it still and keep holding it".

You will have to stay there on and on, because if you leave it; it will run!

If you have stayed there holding the minute-hand still, forever; then you would have lived forever!

Can Aging Be Stopped For Real?

The body has a mechanism called Mitophagy, that naturally works against the process of aging by constantly replacing weak Mitochondria with new ones!

(If you forgot Biology and i did: "Mitochondria are basically, batteries or powerhouses of cells. Ultimately, they are the part of the cell, that act like a digestive system as they break down nutrients into energy rich molecules, that cells need)

As we grow older though, **Mitophagy loses frequency and the body is left with loads of faulty and weak Mitochondria. **This is what leads to weakness in aging muscles, other age-related diseases like Parkinson's and ultimately, aging!

Some researchers from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/07/160711120533.htm); have been able to discover a molecule found in pomegranates, that has the potential to reboot the Mitophagy mechanism in aging humans, thus, delaying aging!

However, this pomegranate molecule still has to be converted into the anti-aging ingredient called urolithin A, by specific gut bacteria that inhabit the intestines— but this specific gut bacteria is only exists in the intestines of some people.

(This goes to say, that if you have this specific got bacteria and you eat pomegranates, then you maybe obliviously tackling ageing!)

urolithin A is able to re-power the renewal process of Mitophagy, which mitigates the aging process!

To study the effects of urolithin A against aging, observations where done on nematode C. elegans, a type of worm known for its 10-day lifespan and it was seen that exposure to urolithin A, had these worms living more than 45% longer.

Studies were also carried out with two-year-old mice and these aging rodents, were seen to have had a 42% better running stamina, when exposed to urolithin A.

How About Ageing In Humans?

Human studies are currently being held to test a urolithin A supplement, which would they hope will circumvent the need for conversion by (gut bacteria), only possessed by some humans!
