Madame Butterfly
Madama Butterfly, yes Puccini's opera, premiered in 1904 at the scala in Milan. It was probably Puccini's biggest flop and he had to pay back the loss that Scala had made with this opera. Afterwards he began to rewrite the opera, which he thinks was his best!
This opera is based on a true story. An American army officer married the Japanese Butterfly, but will leave her again later. Then the Butterfly family turns against her! Madame Butterfly gaves birth to a son and waits for his father to come back. And when he finally returns he has brought his new american wife with him. Madame Butterfly is completely broken by the loss of everything. She says goodbye to her son and cuts her throat.
Somehow I hope

has a more happy ending!
