MONDAY MIXTAPE #2 - Favourite Songs For The Week!

#mondaymixtape (2).png

Last week I started a new tag:
#mondaymixtape

Here is the post: MONDAY MIXTAPE - Favourite Songs For The Week! (New Tag)

A good number of people participated on that day itself with their own posts which I honestly wasn't expecting. So thank you for that!
I hope this becomes a trend 🤓

Quick rules for anyone who wants to participate in the #MondayMixtape tag:

  1. Make a post with #mondaymixtape as your first tag
  2. Post links to 5 songs you like
  3. Tell us why you like them. Point out features that surprised you, stuff you learnt from the song, etc etc.

I shall do my best to Upvote all #mondaymixtape posts 😇

I think this can be a great way for everyone to discover new music!
And who knows, this might turn into a contest if there is enough interest (and some sponsorship!) 😁

So without further ado, my 5 picks for this week:

1. Wonderwall - Oasis - FUNK cover feat. Darren Criss! (Scary Pockets)

Alright, so this is a cover song. But it so fucking awesome, I have been listening to it all week. So FUNKy!
That groove and that Bassline! It gets you going from the get go! And such wonderful work on the vocals. You can see that they are just completely having a blast playing it. And that energy just transfers to you when you listen to it.

2. Jain - Makeba

Two words - Bass Sound! And how that "oooo wee" is used. So cool! Don't you just wanna groove and dance to this one?
Plus the video is super duper awesome! It got a Grammy nomination which is just amazing.
This song is also used in one of Levi's ads.

3. Blackstratblues - Ode to a Sunny Day

Blackstratblues is an Indian instrumental band led by guitarist Warren Mendonsa. This is one of my favourite songs from the band. There is just so much emotion in the melody and the guitar playing. How those little notes on Piano just give you goosebumps! This proves again that you don't need words in a song to evoke emotion.
Their latest album is amazing as well. Go buy it!

4. Mree - Atmosphere | Sofar NYC

Marie Hsiao, best known as Mree, is an indie folk singer-songwriter from New Jersey. I guess she started off doing covers on YouTube before she put out her original stuff.
I just love her voice. She brings so much emotion to the words. It is not about the words, but how they are said, how they are sung. And Mree is a genius at it.
I like this Sofar live performance even more than the recorded version of this. Something about how it is mixed, and the ambience, makes me feel I am sitting right there watching Mree perform. And sometimes tears just roll down my cheeks.
Plus that is live singing! Very few can do that. Mree has my respect for that.

5. Atif Aslam, Tajdar-e-Haram, Coke Studio Season 8, Episode 1.

I have always loved Coke Studio Pakistan. The way they produce the songs is brilliant. There are some ninja musicians in-house and they do a perfect job every time!
This song is in the Qawwali format originally composed by Sabri Brothers. And Atif Aslam has done a super job reincarnating it in a modern format.
And the lyrics are something which surely take you on a spiritual journey ✨

So what is your #mondaymixtape.
You can even post in the comments and let me know.
