Music Album of the Day

Herbie Hancock
He is one of the figures that most opinions found in contemporary jazz. He is a stylistically restless artist who has been influenced by almost every musical trend of the second half of the twentieth century. However, Hancock's pianistic and keyboard style are completely his own, with his own urban and complex harmonic features, and his particular rhythms. Having studied engineering, Hancock was always perfectly prepared for the electronic age: he was one of the first masters in the Rhodes electric piano and the Hohner clavinet. In any case, the piano has always been his preferred instrument.
He was the author of two of the most popular jazz compositions in history, "Watermelon Man", the first cut of his debut album Takin 'Off (1962), which raged on the rhythm and blues stations in the Mongo SantamarĂa version, and "Cantaloupe Island", which 32 years after its creation would have a great popular success when the British hip hop group US3 sampled it.
Hancock has recognized Miles Davis as his favorite musician because he advocated the basic jazz principle of touching the present moment, not the past.
