Caroline Cobb: Musician, Poet, Theologian

For my "Sunday Post" this week,

I thought I'd tell you about a fine Christian artist who I met and heard sing a couple of years ago.

"There is a mountain only the lame can climb
There is a table only the hungry find
And only the beggar will have the currency
When need is all you need"

- Caroline Cobb -

Her name is Caroline Cobb.

Caroline visited our church one fine Sunday morning.

That morning, she shared a song she had been working on. Caroline returned and gave us a concert in the evening.

The song Caroline sang that morning is one I'll never forget. She calls it "There Is a Mountain." It is the lead song on her newest album, "A Heart & A Hunger."

I write this because Caroline is a worthy artist.

I appreciate poetry. I appreciate music. I appreciate theology.

When I find all three sweetly combined one person, I treasure them and their work.
Caroline Cobb is just such an artist.

In the video below,

Caroline shares some of the background of how and why she created "A Home & A Hunger."

"There Is a Mountain" is a remarkable song.

From the moment I first heard it, I was captivated. I can't listen to the song without weeping.

Not only is it musically outstanding, the lyrics of "There Is a Mountain" are compelling and powerful.

The song is about the grace and kindness of our Lord. It is a song about elevation, about how God raises us up. It tells the timeless tale of Jesus' love for us, reaching out to us in our need and emptiness.

"There Is a Mountain" is the story of a gift that transcends belief. It speaks of the love of the God who has become our friend, lifting us up and freeing us from utter loss.

Don't even think about it. Just go to your favorite music service and click "Buy" now.

Caroline's earlier work is also outstanding.

I'll leave you with one of her older songs that has a "complete" YouTube entry:

Caroline Cobb.

Today would be a good day to get to know her music. Who knows? You may find yourself picking up more than one of her albums.
